Hi everyone! I just happened to stumble onto this forum in a search for budgie/parakeet information I am not new to owning birds but it has been 10 years since I've owned one and I just purchased from a breeder a little Lutino Parakeet. I am getting him used to his new environment & have been researching updated care. Many years ago in the 80's I was licensed with the state of Colorado and was involved with breeding hookbills to stop the importation of wild parrots. We established a handfeeding formula to raise tame babies and now many formulas are available in the bird market. I really miss having all those little baby hookbills sitting in a 10 gal aquiarum that was a make shift incubator for the babies. I had those aquiarums lined all along my nursery walls on cabinet tops I hope I learn a lot about the care of this little guy or girl, it seems nobody really knows how to sex them by their cere. He/she is 3 mo old and brings me such joy! I enjoy talking about parakeets and hope I make some awesome bird friends.

Hello and welcome from me and my two. I think he is a boy. Same colour as my Pip's cere Thank you suesbird!! I was hoping for a boy!! I heard they are not as moody and they learn to talk quicker. Such beautiful babies! I see the Lutino and is the other an Albino?

They are both Lutino, somebody will come on and say henππ. Yep hens are stroppy, moody and very inquisitive, can't turn your back on them. Jo's favourite thing is to lick the condensation on a gin and tonic glass, amongst lots of other mischievous things. Pip much quieter and not as adventurous. Very quiet again on here today, Every one must be out having fun

I'm sure they will say hen, I saw another post somewhere when I was searching the internet that one Luntio was called a hen and then a male, then hen. I will say "boy" and I will name him Sunny If the cere looks like your male, then male it is to me! It is a Holiday here, so most people are out and about but it's been so stormy here and we have a lot of flooding, so I'm staying in and going to get to know Sunny better.

Hi and welcome to you and Sunny. While the photo is further away than I like for determining gender, it would seem that he is indeed a he.
