My other half Lee wants to get a chameleon, does anyone know if it would pose a health risk to the budgies, or vice versa? I know they have a dangerous salmonella like bacteria on their skin which is a bit of a concern to me, but I would never allow any actual physical contact between it and the budgies anyway. However is there anything else anyone is aware of please? All advice however small will be gratefully received and investigated! Thankyou!

No idea, Sarah! Do you guys not have any quarantine laws? It seems if it exists it is allowed into Britian. I am amazed at the diversity of exotic creatures you guys have. Curiosity only, but how do you interact with a chameleon?

I wouldn't think there would be a problem, reptiles and birds mix in the wild, I would keep them separated though, wished I had eye's like them, then I could watch TV and keep the other one on Stephanie....... ;D

I have lizards and I used to have my budgies in the house and I never had a problem. The salmonella that you are concerned about is only passed on by poor hygiene eg, not washing your hands between handing each animal, and eating ect. If you stick to a good hygiene routine then you shouldnt have any problems. Hope this helps

Now you'd better get her an extra special Valentines gift to make up for that and hope she doesn't decide that a Chameleon's diet will be on the menu for you from now on ;D

I'm a real worrier about germs etc, and I wash my hands far too often already. (3 times when I put out the bin )Unfortunately dealing with a reptile is not something I could do so regarding the hygiene with the chameleon I will have to speak to Lee about the hand washing, and not letting it touch his clothes etc. I'll probably dig out one of the 9 or so antibacterial hand gels I have in my handbag and make him use that too . I can see myself becoming a bit of a nightmare with it!!

[/quote] I don't really like the idea of it being "on the loose" especially as I'm on my own in the house all day working. Really really not my bag, so it would have to be in the tank when Lee is not around to look after it!
