Tweetie Pie is full into his first molt. It started slow last month with him loosing a few feathers but now he is loosing a lot more especially the down like feathers. He also has those pin feathers on his head. He usually comes down from his sleeping perch between 7:30-8:00 am. This morning he stayed up there until around 8:30 am when I adjusted the cover where his sleeping perch is. Our morning routine is that I uncover the front of his cage when I hear him moving about and then about an hour later I remove the entire cover when he goes to eat. This morning when I didn't hear him moving, I uncovered the front and saw he was still on his sleeping perch. Is he just being low energy/lazy because of the molt? His droppings look normal but I did see a few (very few) seeds on the floor and thought he may have regurgitated at some point during the night.

Aww! Look how blue his little cere is! What a cutie! They do tend to be less energetic during a moult.

They do tend to be less energetic during a moult. For sure, and can be cranky with it. Just leave him be, if he is cranky, but think about giving him a small container of hard-boiled egg mashed up well or some dried eggfood. Some budgie like one but not the other. The extra protein can help keep their energy levels up and aid in healthy feather production. I will usually give mine a little finger drawer with eggfood in it if they seem to be suffering through a particularly heavy moult. Eggfood you can leave in the cage, whereas boiled egg needs to be removed after several hours, depending on your climate.

Thanks! I do have some egg food (I'm allergic to eggs, so it easier for me) that I have been mixing in with his seed mixture recently. After the tenuous start to our day yesterday, he perked up in the afternoon and was playing and chirping normally. He said his first word "pretty"! I didn't realize how often I said that to him. I'll keep an eye on him but I think the molt may be hard on him. On mom too - I worry when his behavior seems off. This morning he came down from his sleeping perch as normal and is sitting looking out at the world.
