Since a week or two, Pietje has been making unusual sounds. A very quiet, near continuous squaking. He even does it at night, when I think he is asleep. I would like to attach an mp3, but the site only allows images. He has never done this before. He remains in good spirits and active, always playing with his toys and looking for attention. What can this sound mean, what might cause it?
Many thanks again,
Michel

I am not sure what causes it as we'd need to hear the noise.
Can you upload it to youtube and then post a link here?

Without hearing this noise, given his lipoma/tumour, it is very possible that the growth is impeding his breathing causing a squeak, that is not uncommon. The lump will be impeding on the space of all the organs in his body, they will all be compromised to some extent, including his lungs.
We really do need to hear what you are hearing, though.

The sound confirms my initial thoughts - a breathing difficulty due to the added pressure on his whole body due to the growth. You really should get a professional opinion, though, to be sure.

Thank you for your help. I have been to a vet with Pietje just last week, and returned none the wiser, and I think it would be the same here. On the positive side, Pietje is not always making these sounds -not at all yesterday, for instance- but again a bit today. Amd he remains in good spirits.

That is a good sign for now. Have you tried him with milk thistle drops added to his water?

No, I haven't. I will go shopping for milk thistle drops. Thank you for your help with all this, Michel

Where do you live? Someone might be able to point you towards an on-line site that they have been happy with. You can get it from some health food stores, but often at a rather weak concentration. I use Nature's Answer 2000mg, others use the same brand but at a lesser concentration.

I am in New Zealand. I have found some in a health food store. It's a tea, so I make a little tea, let it cool, and mix it into Pietje's water. I'll keep a close eye on his drinking habits.

Make sure he is drinking it, then increase the amount of tea you give him. He should be able to drink the tea straight. Budgies, or birds in general, don't seem to mind their MT water, in fact I have one that wants to drink it even though he doesn't need it.

I am happy to report Pietje is better. He never took to the milk thistle, but we made sure he sleeps more, kept him warmer at night, and spike his food with vitamins. Of course, there is no knowing whether any of that has made the difference. Lipoma seems to get smaller too. Thank you for all your help and advice. Michel
