BertieB started moulting around Christmas when he was about 3 months old, starting with just the small fluffy white feathers. Mid March and he's still moulting, now losing some of his longer feathers. I have no experience in this so is this normal?
He is fine. Active, chatty, sociable and eating well. I'm sure it's okay but I expected it to be over in a month or so.

I can't remember how long Dexter's first moult was. RC had already had his when we go him. Dean Stockwell still had a few of his baby bars to lose and he had quite a gradual moult with the rest of them. He's probably not the best yardstick though as he's almost certainly got one of the feather loss viruses.
With their moults now it varies - sometimes it will look like a pillow has burst in their cage and other times they lose their feathers more gradually and it seems to last for ages. They've all just had the rapid sort and and I could have filled a small cushion with feathers.
Sorry I can't be more help.

No worries criswell. I'm sure he is well, I was just curious really.

I'm sure others who've had more budgies will have experiences to share too

My.Charlies first moult lasted a long time too, in fact he moults a lot even now he is 14 months old. Sometimes the central heating doesn’t help.... I have been told not to worry as long as he doesn’t have any bald patches and seems well in himself....

If his climate changes, that can kickstart a moult regardless of when he last moulted. I actually think it is better for them to have a slow drawn out moult rather than hard and fast, where they could have trouble replacing feathers all at once.
