Mabel has been laying down recently. Looked at her feet and she's a red spot, bumble foot. I'm calling vet tomorrow for antibiotics and going to put a dab of savlon on. All perches have been changed to the soft rubber ones I bought when Rita had the same problem years ago. I'm going to buy Epsom salts and try to bathe it if she will let me. Anything else I can do?

If your vet has it clt80, Fucidin cream is the absolute best for bumblefoot. Bathe the foot first in Epsom Salts, dab the foot dry if you can and then before bed put the Fucidin cream on. They still still most of the night so that gives the cream a nice long time to work. You will have to apply the cream, I would say, on a daily basis, at bed time. I have done this and it works. Takes a while though.

clt80, I would also try to find out why she has gotten bumblefoot in the first place. Has her foot changed shape, has she injured herself so is using her feet slightly differently, is she favouring her other foot so that this one foot is doing the majority of the work? Or, is there a particular perch that she uses all the time ... one that might be too smooth and uniform?

I can only think it was one of the branches in her cage. They've been removed, none I thought were rough but I've put all soft rubber perches in now. It's not the foot which had the broken toe so maybe she favours it more as she can't grip with that toe - it stays poker straight.
Shirls I went the chemist but they had no Epsom salts, I am off today so went for the food shop and found some Epsom and dead sea salts with lavender and jasmine. I'm not sure if this is OK with th e dead sea salts and the fragrance but bought it incase. I'll upload a picture.

In my opinion and only in my opinion I wouldn't favour the fragranced salts, BUT I'm sure the sea salt and epsom salts together are fine. It is only a decision you can make if you use them, it would also depend how heavily fragranced they are too. I do feel it would be better just to use the antibiotics and/or Fucidin.

Thank you. I won't use them, it was all I could find but I can use them myself in the bath or something. I'll see if I can order them online. Vets said last night I can have the cream but I need to wait for a phone call today before I can go and collect.

I know that toe - Mango has one as well. Agree with Shirls, re the fragrant salt. I personally wouldn't use it. Hope her sore spot gets better quickly with all the added attention. xx

He can grip with it sometimes and at other times it's curled forwards so the claw is pointing to the front of his foot. It looks uncomfortable but it doesn't seem to bother him. I just keep an eye on it in as I don't want the claw to hurt his foot. It was like this when we got him so I assumed it may have been an injury which occurred in his first home where he apparently fought with their existing pet budgie (resulting in him being sent to the SSPCA). Just wondered if anyone had seen this sort of thing before?

willowsmum, can you start a separate thread with as many photos as you think are needed to show the toe you are describing. Toes can be easily injured, but whether they go on to be a problem, only time will tell.
