Vincent Goose is brilliant! I bet he’s so soft to snuggle up to.

I love Vincent suesbird He is very handsome. Have you see the Edwards menagerie books? I have several of them including the bird one. Not made much from them though. Don't seem to find the time for crocheting at the moment. I used to do it on the train to work. I was once asked if I was crocheting a Clanger sadly I think it was an aardvark 🤣 Ira Google 'crochet budgie pattern' and you will have reason to learn! So many cute budgies could be made. I could make myself a whole flock that don't require cleaning up after and don't shout over the television...

blueelephant I have one pattern already, that was why I wanted to learn, but I don't understand the instructions on how to do the stitches. Not the abbrieviations on the pattern, just the actual stitches themselves. It's just a bunch of pictures with words that really don't tell me how it's supposed to go.

Ira, as someone just learning I've been going to YouTube to learn the stitch. I find I have to watch 2 or 3 versions before I see one I understand and that is done slow enough that I get it. I have some scrap yarn and an extra crotchet hook to practice with.

My two balls are essentially just scrap that my Nan gave me to practise with. I think her instruction book is just a bit old and seems fine if you also have a person to show you, but is a bit useless by itself.
I might try YouTube. I'll just need to get a list of the British-American terms, because I think what you guys call a single crochet, we call a double, or some daft thing like that (even though single makes more sense for the most basic stitch that isn't the initial chain).

Ira - that’s hilarious! I was t even thinking about the “wands”, but I think I’ve must’ve heard something like that before! I have a very good friend who hosted free knitting classes (pre-Covid), but the. I couldn’t knit anything unless I was sitting next to him, in case I messed up! Crochet is much easier for me to follow and I even made myself an entire Cheshire Cat themed hood with ears, scarf mittens and a tail for Halloween one year. But I haven’t done anything else really since. Keeping yarn can be a bit clutter-y also if you aren’t using it all the time, so I donated most of mine and kept just a few skeins in case I ever get the urge again… I tried making “amigurumi”, little stuffed dolls like Vincent the goose there, but smaller, but for some reason whenever I tried to stuff them you could see the stuffing through the stitches (maybe I tried to stuff them too heavily?) so I gave up on that after a bit too 😁

Ira, can I suggest you use a 4 or 4 1/2 hook to practice with. Yes do be careful with the American / English terms….. For instance the American single stitch is called a double in England….the double American stitch is a treble in England. Do you shop on Amerzon? A book like this one would help you learn the basic stitches……….

If you making toys use a smaller hook so the stitches are very tight. I knitted the Dickensian mice by Alan Dart, they are great. I have crochet toys everywhere🤦♀️ Still cross stitching my tiger as well. Not enough time.
Start with squares and double knitting wool and like ladybird said, watch your terms. Any help needed just ask
Thank you for your lovely comments. I do find it hard to accept compliments 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️

suesbird, would love to see how Mr Tiger is getting on if you want to share. I have a cross stitch I will get back to when I retire. I took time off purposely and then a Loki came into my life. Getting back into it is my promise to myself for when I finish work.

I have had a break from it for a few months as it is quite intense doing one stitch and changing colour. I am doing a quilt, crochet, knitting and small cross stitches so busy as usual So here he is, a bit grubby so will need a wash🤦♀️🤦♀️
