Poor little Buddy has lost both his tail feathers. He flew out of his cage today but didn't go too far. He a lot of trouble getting any lift, poor little guy.

One of my previous budgies never seemed to have a long tail feather, they look so small when it's missing don't they?

That's a shame tweetiepiesmom , hopefully he can adapt while he's waiting for his new feathers to grow.

Thanks willowsmum. He's quite the little acrobat and has been climbing around and doing some flying out to the perch on the outside of his cage. He doesn't seem upset, just his usual happy chirpy self.

You know the saying "it's only two weeks between a good haircut and a bad one". In that time he will be back to looking fab again ... well maybe a little bit longer but not much.

Since Buddy's going through a big molt, I've been expecting him to be "off" or moody but he hasn't been. Last night (Wed) he lost a long wing feather. Tweetie Pie didn't sleep well last night. I put a new toy next to his sleeping perch. I had it hanging outside his cage for a couple of days so I thought he was used to it but apparently not. Tweetie Pie slept on another perch - one that he has slept on but not often. Tweetie Pie is not a chirpy morning bird. When he was by himself (before Buddy), I'd wait until I heard him come to a lower perch in the morning and then uncover him. He'd eat and remain quiet until late morning. He gives me this look that says "Don't you have birdie coffee?" Buddy gets active with sunrise, chirping and playing. Now I uncover them when Buddy starts screaming. Buddy will run over to Tweetie Pie and start kissing him and beaking him. Tweetie Pie just sits there and lets Buddy do his thing. This morning Tweetie Pie jumped up to his normal sleeping perch, tucked his head under his wing and snoozed - very unusual. He was his normal self except that he hogged the perches and food cup from Buddy. In the late afternoon I usually clean their seed dish and add more to it. The door was open for their flight time. Tweetie kept nudging Buddy away from the seed dish. I got some seeds in the palm of my hand and held it inside the cage. Buddy flew over to eat. I moved my hand out of the cage and he kept eating. Then he flew onto my reading glasses, up to my head, back to my hand to eat, then to my shoulder and finally back to my hand to finish the seeds. When he was done he flew back into the cage to play. The buds were their normal selves for the rest of the night. They each are now sleeping on their normal sleeping perches. It was fun having Buddy on me today. Maybe he'll come again and one day maybe Tweetie Pie will join him.

I love the description of their morning routine! I can just picture Tweetie Pie sitting there while Buddy showers him with kisses Lovely to have him use you as a feeding post too Do you ever wonder what you did before you had them come and live with you?!! I think we are all so lucky to have such lovely birds

Lovely story of your two boys. Isn't it funny how they have their own little ways. Agree with willowsmum too, I don't know how I ever filled my day before I had budgies 😅😅

Yes, willowsmum and jellybean they do cheer me up every day! I just love having them jump on my hand to feed. I also love watching their antics and how they behave towards one another.

It's lovely that they are getting on so well and they are happy boys. I miss having a budgie climb on me. My current 3 have not desire to do that. I love watching them interact with each other though.
It's funny how little things can upset their routine so much. I got a java perch for their cage, which has been attached on the outside of Dean Stockwell's old cage. He has been very unhappy about it because he didn't feel safe to visit his bell. I finally caved in after a week and moved to the far end of the cage as he was shouting at me too often and now he's back to popping out of the cage to visit the bell. Not even Dexter has touched the perch in the week it has been there and I don't hold out much hope of being able to put it in their cage.

Poor little Buddy had a bad flight day yesterday. He came out to fly, aimed for the kitchen, was squealing the whole time he was flying, could get much lift and landed on the roll of paper towels. He was looking upset and was breathing hard. I went and got him on my finger and he jumped/flew to the top of my head. I slowly walked back to the cage. When I got close he flew over and climbed around the cage a bit and then went inside. He came and stood on the doorway a couple of times but didn't venture out to fly again. Poor baby had to watch Tweetie Pie flying in and out all day. I noticed that Buddy has also lost a couple of his longer wing feathers. Hope the new feathers grow back soon. Tweetie Pie has been so good about preening Buddy's pin feathers on his head.

That must have given him such a fright. It's lovely that Tweetie Pie preens him.

Buddy had a good day yesterday. Both he and Tweetie Pie flew out of the cage together (that hasn't happened before) and flew around the cage for a couple of laps. Buddy was squealing the whole time but he did land back on the cage and crawled around and played a bit before going back in. Tweetie Pie was his usual self, in and out of the cage.
