As usual, I clean out the buds every day but do the big clean at the weekend. But isn't it funny how they always seem to know that when I clean them out then its time to make more mess?! The usual thing is to remove the trays out of the bottom of the cage and then they poop where I have cleaned. Do yours do the same? So, I just had to capture this...look at his little face

So true samwiseg!!! Whenever I remove the bottom tray for cleaning, I tell my guys to hold their poop until I get the cleaned tray back in. Do they listen? Nooooo!

It's not just buds either! Lily the cat will use her tray straight after it's been cleaned. Animals are crafty blighters!

He doesn't look the slightest bit sorry lol I have my paper all neatly folded to fit the bottom of the cage, and between whipping out the messy paper and cleaning out the bottom, by the time I have turned round and picked up the clean paper, fresh plip plops!

I normally do the big clean at weekends but I didn't want to mess him around too much last weekend as he was a bit 'poorly'. I did it today. His face always makes me laugh when I take his cage apart. "Mum, why are you destroying my home"

samwiseg "Call that a mess? That's not a mess. Look, I can make it so much worse if I just push it off the edge here". They know exactly what they're doing, little monkeys! blue48 taking the cage apart for a big clean is always interesting as I usually have a little helper who wants to sit on my hand and oversee my efforts - I'm getting quite good at doing things with one hand! He never looks completely happy but all is quickly forgiven when one of his long lost 'girlfriends' makes an appearance from the toy box. "Now where have you been hiding, my lovely red, dangly ball thingy?"

Funny you should say that willowsmum. I washed all his toys too and rearranged them. He's in his toy box now, investigating

Mine have a 'toy box' too. God, does it get messy!! I actually get pooped on sometimes when removing the bottom tray, when I clean up under the boing I usually say 'now don't poop on my head while I'm down here!' haven't YET!! As far as I know anyway!!

When Loki is sitting with me and he needs to poop he gets a little chirrup going and starts to get a bit agitated. All that rather than fly off and poop somewhere else, he waits until I take him over to his tree, an accepted place to poop. He knows where to go, just prefers me to take him there. Honestly!!!

You can traain these birds, in all sorts of ways, if you have the time and of course patience. My budgies are trained as far as I would like them to be, and my chooks are pretty well trained and they like routine.
