About a week ago, we noticed that our budgie Lenny had lost his chirp and appeared to be clicking when he breathed. We took him to a vet who said that it was a respiratory problem and she gave us some Antibiotics. We have administered them for the last week but he has neither improved or worsened in his condition until today. He has been breathing quite rapidly and is making little crying noises and appears to be trying to clear the roof inside of his beak. He looks very healthy but we have just noticed that he his rubbing the top of his cere against anything he can find. We have read about Air sac mites and respiratory tract infections. What would be the general diagnosis for either? He his just over 6 and was in very good health until this happened. Thankyou in advance of any replies

While you should have started to see improvement in his condition by now, a week isn't a very long course of AB's. Does he have any nasal discharge? It is possible that he has a sinus infection - still respiratory but much harder to completely cure due to lack of blood supply to the area and the thickness of budgie pus. Air sac mites are not all the common especially in bird housed inside. I would suggest that you revisit the vet or see another for a second opinion, particularly as you have noticed a change in the last day or two.
