So I was still a bit worried about Monty’s beak so brought him to an avian vet earlier. She thinks either he’s not using his cuttlebone enough or that he could possibly be in the very early stages of mites. She isn’t entirely convinced of this but medicated him and Matilda just to be sure. Poor Matilda let out this horrendous caterwaul when she did this, along with trimming her toenails 😭 Both very healthy otherwise, although she says Matilda might not even be a girl which was a surprise as the breeder said she was! Anyway they’re recovering now after their exciting day. We had to wait in the car for the appointment as the vet was delayed so they had great fun peering out the windows 😄

Sounds like they had a less than fun time. Grey bird looks like a boy and the green bird is definitely a girl. Boys don't normally get tan ceres!

Less than fun in the actual vets, yes 😣 they enjoy the car though!
She behaves exactly like a girl so we have no doubt that she is. The vet’s comments threw us! Monty is 100% all boy!

Even avian vets are not experts in budgies. They may be experts in all things bird, but not the specifics of each particular species. Breeders know more about their own specialty, more often than not.

The guy has 42 years experience with Budgies so I’d be inclined to take his word for it. Also the fact she is so territorial and nibbles everything she sees 😂

How is Monty's beak? Does it look smoother?

How is Monty's beak? Does it look smoother? It’s a tiny bit better than before, it looks more uniform. Before it looked like it had a jagged layer on it and you could only see the pointed bit at the bottom when he yawned etc. He has started using the cuttlebone though as of the last couple of weeks which is great and I think it’s improving. We thought it might be a deformity but the vet said definitely not 😊

It got a bit worse after that was taken but this is him now. The cere has improved a lot as well. Slowly but surely!
