Brodie’s been losing feathers above his beak & a little under his eye for a couple of weeks now & now he’s losing under his other eye too. He doesn’t seem to be growing new ones in (or if they are, they’re just falling out again). It was bleeding a bit today so I put some coconut oil on. Has anyone any suggestions? He’s absolutely fine in himself & while he is liking a head rub more than usual, especially on that area, it doesn’t seem to be particularly itchy or irritating him. Some of you may remember he had a brown cere & I was rubbing coconut oil on it which has helped it turn blue again. I did wonder if it was the cause for the feather loss but I’ve not put any on him for a good few weeks (until this evening when it was bleeding). Thanks in advance for any help.

He's got a ton of pin feathers on his forehead which is probably why he is rubbing it so much, possibly causing some damage to the new feathers if he is too keen. Try giving him a warm misty spray, or try getting him in to have a bath. I'm not seeing feathers missing around his eye.

It does look like heavy moulting in the area just above the cere. I'm guessing that is what you're seeing near the eye too.

Yes, Marianne, it is. The weird thing is, apart from the odd feather, he’s not really moulting elsewhere (he could just be warming up though! 😉). Thanks Hezz, the offer of a bath was met with utter disdain so I’ll try the mister next, he views it as ‘the Spray of Death’ though! Or, failing that, the sauna treatment would have the same effect I guess?

Have you tried wet herbs to get him to bathe, some dill, coriander or basil? That is what mine like to use.
They rarely "bathe" these days.

Oooo, that’s a thought, he loves a bit of wet parsley!

One of my boys used to have a bad head moult once a year, and yes sometimes around his eye(s) did get a bit thin.

Did you ever figure out what caused this or did it resolve on its own?
I am new here but I saw your other posts and wanted to say I am ver sorry for your loss of this handsome boy- May he rest in peace ☮️
