Hey all!
I'm a little concerned, my boy is going through a pretty rough moult and 2 days ago his poops started getting runny, but sometimes comes back to good, but then gets runny again. I dived a little into moultings and read that sometimes some budgies going through rough moults get these runny poops. Otherwise he's al cheery, no problems, flies around, sings and all, just gets tired more easily, sleeps a bit more (casual moulting). But I'm always very stressed about poops, so I'd like to know if anyone ever saw something like this? Is this an actual thing? Should I be more concerned?

My boy Ben has always had softer poops during a moult
Mine only have short bursts of energy for playtime during a moult too, he has just come through a moult and poops are back to normal.

Have you been giving him any vegetables?
Do you have a photo of the droppings?

Gonna attach some photos from today's poops. One fresh, and the others are from earlier this morning. Also looks like he chewed out one of his growing tail feathers what the heck?! I just found it on the paper... But he's not bleeding or something. What should I do? He never did such things...
Didn't give him any vegetables. He was growing 2 tail feathers besides all the little ones on his head and other places by the way, now it's only one. Yesterday he still had that one...

But this little stinker didn't even eat very much today. He does that when he's moulting. Like he goes down to his food bowl, looks at it, pecks at a few seeds then drinks water and goes back to sleep. There is nothing in his belly to make his poop look normal lol. Then once a day he goes and eats like a pig and destroys half of the bowl. He's really weird. It's like a moulting routine or what.

Look. These 3 poops are the ones he made after the piggy-time (aka eating half of the bowl at once after starving for a day). They aren't perfect, but since these ones he started making proper "dry" poops. This is what this little stinker does. Doesn't eat for a day, gives me a heart attack, then during late afternoon he goes back to normal. How could I help him through this moult? It's really making him look awful, (although nothing a disney playlist couldn't solve=his favorites, but I'm not really pressing on this music thing, want to let him rest as much as possible).

My female budgie sleeps a lot during moult and sometimes doesn't move to the food bowl to eat.. it must be the lack of energy..
If she doesn't eat on time (which happens on the toughest of the moulting days), I end up feeding her from my hand multiple times or move the food bowl near to her.
My birdies seem to have the same poop pattern during moult.. and I never knew that could happen due to moult..

Watery pooping during a moult certainly is a thing, not just a cyber-myth. Besides giving him access to bathing, misting him with clean water if he doesn't mind that, about the only other suggestion is adding some protein to his diet while he is producing new feathers. Hard boiled egg mashed up or dried commercial eggfood, both are good. Some will eat one but not the other, or try offering him a little cooked chicken, of course with no salt or spices. He may or may not eat it.

Boil it for the same duration you would for your own egg - to hard-boiled. Some people give theirs 20-25 minutes, but I'm not sure why. Salmonella, the worst contaminant found in/on eggs is killed way before that. Then just mash it up fine, concentrate on the yolk as that is where all the nutrients are. Depending on your climate, I wouldn't leave it in for more than a couple of hours, which is why I like the dried eggfood. It can be left in a finger drawer in the cage all the time.

We boil eggs for around 20 minutes. I take it out from their cage after an hour, to be on the safer side.

Regarding the feather that he chewed, it could be that it was not growing properly and it irritated him, it looks abnormal to me. Good that he's not bleeding now.

Thanks a lot guys! He's feeling much better now. Made him sleep even more than usual, now he's eating perfectly, poops all back to normal. Energy is improving a lot too. I think that feather messed him up a bit.
