Yesterday I took Heathcliffe to the vets, he isn't using his foot, it's completely limp. She couldn't feel any tumours thank god and it's not broke so we are thinking a nerve issue. There is a good blood supply and although he could feel when she pinched, he didn't seem to be in pain, the vet agreed this.
He's currently inside with Tom and mabel being pampered. I'm hoping he will accommodate and start using the flat perches to rest his good foot. Has anyone had experience of this?

No, I have not experienced this with my budgies. Hope Heathcliffe gets better soon!

Sorry, clt80 - no experience of this, but I hope it gets better soon. Glad Heathcliffe is in good company and being pampered!

Sparky did when he had his first seizure, his wing on that side drooped a bit as well. He gradually got full use back and his wing lifted back into the correct position. I am confident that he did his own physio as he was not one to sit around - he was my little pocket-rocket - so he basically behaved as normal. He had a few stumbles, but nothing he couldn't overcome. I hope Heathcliffe is as lucky and regains the use of his leg. Hugs to you both. xx

Thanks everyone. I am sure he just wants to get back outside to his friends but I need to be sure he can cope.
It's ever so strange; it's just his foot, curled up. One theory is that he's got it caught on something and been pulling and pulling and it's damaged the Nerve, who knows.
He is such a sweet little boy, he's with roxanne now but prior to that he was with a special needs bird, Dorothy, and he looked after her like you wouldn't believe.

You can't know everything, for sure. Hopefully a little rehab of his own will have him back in the aviary very quickly.
i was wrong about Sparky's recovery, but only slightly. His wing did not completely lift back up, it did always have a slight droop but it never affected his flight at all, which is why I was thinking all along that it was back in place.
Sometimes, oftentimes, I think we should just let them be and allow them to recuperate on their own. Sometimes I think we interfere too much.

Jerry's leg went limp on one side for about a day, a few months before he started having seizures. I thought he had just caught the nail and hurt it, but unfortunately, time would tell that it was more serious for him.
Eventually both legs went limp after a really bad seizure and he couldn't hold up his head to eat or drink so I had to have him pts, he was only 2 or 3 years old.
I hope things are a lot brighter for your Heathcliffe and it's nothing like Jerry's situation.

I have a strange feeling he isn't going to regain the use of his foot, but, I'm sure he will adapt. I agree Hezz sometimes the buds know best and we underestimate them in terms of then being capable to look after themselves. He seems brighter today, fettling about so fingers crossed towards the end of next week I'm going to try him back outside. Oh Marianne Marlow that's so very sad indeed, it's so heart breaking isn't it, life can be beautiful sometimes, and also in the same breath very cruel.

Poor Heathcliffe. I'm glad he's feeling brighter and hope his return to the aviary goes as planned. Fingers crossed his leg improves with no lasting damage x
