Sounds like you've made a very wise choice mona. You've plenty of time to plan a safe trip. Hopefully by the time you need to travel, the covid cases will be declining where you live. A few years ago an Indian friend married an American and they had a traditional Indian ceremony. The bride wore a red dress with the henna "tatoos" on her arms and the bracelets. Her husband started growing a beard well in advance so it would be grown out enough for the wedding. The men in her family helped him with the traditional attire including the head dress. It was a beautiful ceremony and I felt very honored to be invited. I hope you will enjoy the wedding.

I have secured the cage with double cable ties at each joint and I'm going to make sure to hold it properly and not by the hanging hook. I have added one screw on food bowl, their familiar safe perch and a water container in the cage. I had placed it on the cage top today. They weren't afraid of it, I guess they remember that cage from the travel and when they came home in that one. I have kept some millet there to lure them in. I guess I have plenty of time. If they don't move inside it on their own, then I will just move their food bowl inside it a few days before travel, to pack their cage and other stuff. In no way, I want to grab them. The food bowl trick has been working since long and I hope it works!
Also, lined the cage bottom with a soft towel and covered it with white plain papers, in case they fall down. The roadway for around 8 hours is really in a bad shape. They didn't fall anytime last time, unless Cookie squabbled with Breezie.
She becomes extremely nervous and starts fighting with Breezie to deal with her nervousness. Unless I put her little swing on the top, she wouldn't let Breezie breathe. But anyways, after a while they always calm down. I used to take them on short trips to my mom's house whenever I had to travel to my in laws.
In the change of events, we are actually relocating back to home state (January 30th). My hubby got a better opportunity back there. I would miss the weather and nature, but I would love to be back home. We have been struggling with the language over here & feeling really homesick π€¦ββοΈ We used to travel to our parent's home every alternate weekend. Still, due to travel, would have to avoid and keep some distance. This is the worst time to relocate! And this would be the second time, during covid π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ

Weddings are fun indeed! This is a really small one, so we have cut down to few ceremonies instead of the usual elaborate ones. I'm involved in all creative aspects at this point of time like a video wedding invitation, a few handmade wedding cards.. I have so many ideas, but not sure if I would have the time to implement. May be a website for testimonials from friends and family who will not be able to attend the wedding..and maybe a regular update with pictures from the wedding..

I got my old medium sized cage powder coated..the one that caught some rust and I decided to get a new bigger cage.. I had to struggle for around a week to get in touch with a powder coating service. Yesterday, we just decided to travel over there and find one.. fortunately, we got one and got it done at βΉ300 (very cheap) and within 3 hours..!!
I'm planning to transfer the birdies to the medium sized cage at my mom's. They would have to stay there for around 3 weeks, so that would be helpful.
I have to train them to move in and out of the travel cage and old cage this year. I will start trying the step up on perch training after relocation & settling down. That could help me move them from cage to cage. Right now, I just put both the cage face to face with doors open and transfer the food bowl around their snack time to the other one..so that they would eventually move into the other cage..
I'll also see if I can get a safe custom made travel cage for the birdies, for future. If my cage vendor would make it or someone else.. I would have to do a bit of research to check the ideal travel cage to send the designs..

What would be the ideal size for a travel cage? I have enquired my bird cage vendor to make a custom travel cage. He has asked the dimensions.. the current plastic base one is around 1 feet x 1 feet x 1.5 feet..
Would the same dimensions be okay for 2 birdies for a travel cage or it should be wider than taller - to avoid injuries if spooked maybe? However, cookie needs a higher perch than Breezie, otherwise she pushes him off the perch to the cage base. I'm thinking without a base tray and with just a rectangular grill bar cage with just one sliding door at the front. Or the tray attachment outside the cage without any space in between to escape, which if the vendor doesn't provide, I can get a tray and attach it to the base if required..
With just 5 days to the relocation, we would be traveling in the same plastic cage with a load of cable ties everywhere and a ton of precaution.. Will cover the cage with one of my unused but washed skirt which isn't too dark, but prevents them looking at the vehicles moving nearby. I have added a soft towel covered with plain paper this time if Cookie pushes Breezie off the perch and a higher perch for Cookie to stay calm.. We are going to take the route which is a bit longer but the one with good road to the Highway.. Otherwise it felt like a camel ride all the way for 8 hours.. It makes it difficult for the birdies too - they grab the perch too hard.. their feet must hurt.. Not sure if they need thin perches or a bit wider to be able to perch through such damaged road for at least 2 hours.. will add both of them.. they will perch on the one they are comfortable with.

If I were getting something custom made, Iβd look at something a little bigger. Something more like 45cm (17-18 inches) wide. Depth could stay the same - 12 inches, height not so important, 12 inches would probably do there as well. Birds are much more adept at keeping their balance than we are, especially if they have a variety of perch sizes normally available to them.

My cage vendor advised for the same dimensions. I had asked him the same time I had posted on the forum.
He said the height of cage would be 13.5 inch height inc.tray and base and inside the cage it would be 10 inch for the birdies. He advised for Side openable door instead of slider with door size of 8 x 8
We get only cage bar kind of cages over here, unless imported which is super costly. But these ones would be safer than the current detachable plastic base ones.
He is ready to make a travel cage and send it to me. He is from my home state too, so I'll get it early. Due to renovation at his shop, he'll start by mid of feb, which would be great since I'll reach my new apartment back by end of feb.
For now, I have converted one of my old top into a cage base cover for additional safety and to avoid seed husk, food and poop out of the cage.. I had been using an old unused skirt as cage cover.. but Cookie seems to get her nails stuck into it..it's thin cotton with lesser thread counts and spun loosely.. so just replaced it with another better woven cotton skirt (also, a bit loose where she won't get stuck into the skirt.. altered it in the morning as per this cage (her nails aren't overgrown, the skirt was the culprit) Also got a yellow torch for post sunset ride in the car, to avoid them freaking out. Taking some fresh plants, greens, millets, seeds and all their medicines handy.. So stressed about the fact that they are stressed. Poor babies.. how do I explain them that nothing bad will happen to them..they are going to stay with me.. 𧑠A budgie calming music from youtube is helping though.. puts them to sleep.. I might sleep too! π

Transferred them with cages facing each other and food shifted to the travel cage. They were pretty confused for a while on how did they get into the small cage. Normally Breezie gives up the top perch.. but this time, he didn't give up. After fighting for a while, they both slept on the top perch Both of them want to eat from the same food bowl, same green veggie/grass/plant π€¦ββοΈπ

With the recent vet visit for breezie, I realized I need something with less height too, but I didn't want to get one more cage for that purpose. I already have 3 cages with me (thankfully, I gave away one empty cage to someone else).
so, we ended up with a custom design: a travel cage with an additional grid in the middle, converting it into a two floor cage. The grid can be removed or added as per requirement. I could use it for the vet visits and to separate Cookie breezie during travel, if she becomes too nervous and chases breezie all around..
I'm so glad that I have found this cage vendor who can design as per requirement..he also suggested about the cage door ring locks, which I could get easily at a shop..
