Hi, I got this idea of turning the cage horizontal this morning when cleaning their cage. I thought it was a good idea because I heard that budgies fly horizontally and also the bars are horizontal, I heard this is good for climbing. They are happy in it. I know it is on the floor but I am planning to place it somewhere higher tomorrow. Was this a good idea or should I put the cage vertically again?

Horizontal space is definitely far better. They have so much more room to fly back and forth now. The bar direction is debatable. They do like climbing but then sometimes get lazy whilst inside the cage; not too big an issue if they come out a lot. But I have vertical bars and one budgie who still insists on climbing along them rather than flying between perches at times so... Definitely say you made the right call with turning the cage.

Agreed, they need more horizontal space. You might have some trouble placing the paper liners and won't have the tray (if you were using it earlier). Doors might not be aligned the same way as horizontal cages, but I don't think birdies would mind it. It's all in the human mind 😅
I think they will be able to use more cage space that way.. I have got vertical bars and a few horizontal bars. Mine love to slide down the vertical bars..i guess they forget that they can fly 😅 or they love sliding down!
I got a stainless steel rack to keep the cage at a height, since the cage trolleys aren't available here and a bit costly to have it custom made..

I think it's a good idea, does create problems though with the base tray and cleaning. I think horizontal bars are good too myself. My cage has horizzontal bars, is a Piano 6, if you ever decide to change the cage. Try resting the cage on top of the newspaper on the floor, it may hold it down a bit better. Well done though, it looks great! Happy budgies!

My buds are LOVING the 'new' cage! It's easier for them to fly around, when the cage was vertical and they tried to get to a lower perch, sometimes they would fly to the bottom of the cage and hurt themselves. It isn't as hard to clean as I expected, it's actually quite easy because there's a bigger door here in this picture where I drew the black outline, it's quite hard to see.
