Good Lord!! You know I’m a bit of a ghoul, but any chances of photos, sweetpea ? Of the scab and little Perry’s underbelly? I have taken photos & sent some to the vet. I thought they might be a bit gory for here, but just for you, Hezz .... Back & front view I need to resize the photos of the scab so they'll be along shortly...

Poor little guy - I wonder if it itches like sometimes a wound does? Hopefully not and he just ignores it.

Poor Perry. Do you think the vet will want to take a closer look at the bit that fell off?

Poor little bird. . I wish the vet could give you some insight into why this continues to be there. I don’t remember ever seeing anything remotely like this on the forum. I too wonder if the vet wouldn’t want to have a better look at the scab.

He was fiddling with it a lot on the day it peeled off so it must have felt like it was ready to go. I must admit, when he preens around that area, it does make me wince, but it must mean it hasn't been painful as I think he would have avoided it then.

Poor Perry. Do you think the vet will want to take a closer look at the bit that fell off? She didn't say she wanted it! I still have it if she does want it... It's big enough for me to feel like I'm throwing a piece of Perry in the bin, so I haven't done it yet.

I too wonder if the vet wouldn’t want to have a better look at the scab. She did say it was 'bizarre'! I'm not sure if she meant bizarre in general or bizarre for a bird. Given that I haven't agreed to do any tests, it's all speculation as to what the actual lump is. Perhaps if we knew that, it may give some answers as to what has happened. She did confirm that it is possible another blister/abscess could form on the same site (I was hoping scar tissue would prevent that!) so we are still on the roller-coaster... I am guessing she assumes the scab is just dead tissue & dried blood. It was dry & crusty & actually very light. I'm not sure if any tests could be done on it in that state anyway. Perry had an off evening yesterday, but seemed pretty lively & alert today.

I would certainly agree with the “bizarre” comment. It doesn’t even seem to be like an ulcer would be on a human. We do have some nasty little organisms in the tropics that could be described as flesh-eating, I wonder of a topical antibiotic wouldn’t be of some use. Since this is the second time he has lost a scab and this mass doesn’t seem in any hurry to disappear, it would seem like it has a life cycle of its own.
Glad the little fellow seems a bit better; a very worrying time for you, watching and waiting.

To me it looks like layers of scab and pus, like it's scabbed over and then been disturbed over and over, hence all the layers.
But of course this is just a guess.
Poor Perry though, it cannot be nice for him.

But it is not healing under the scab; that’s the worrying thing.

Could that be because Perry kept picking at it though, it must be irritating and itchy when it's trying to heal. But it is not healing under the scab; that’s the worrying thing.

Hard to know without watching him constantly. After all this time you would think there would be some improvement. sweetpea, does it appear to be getting any bigger, or smaller?

There are cones and collars for bird so they can’t pick at themselves while a wound is healing. Could that perhaps help him leave the area alone at least, to rule out that he’s making it worse for himself?
