I have a VERY sweet albino budgie (Ghost) that I believe is a young female. She’s an absolute angel, but unfortunately she was accidentally stepped on yesterday. We took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with a broken right leg... Thankfully no other injuries!!!!!! The vet put a splint on her leg, but she will not move her foot now. The leg is off to the side and her toes do not move or grasp/close.... is this a concern? Or is it because her leg is in the splint???
She is eating, drinking, and hopping around on her left leg. We also have a young lutino budgie (Sunni) who is the newest addition to our family. After Ghost was hurt, I believe she was in shock so she wouldn’t move. It wasn’t until Sunni called for her that she perked up and started trying to walk. We are so thankful that Sunni was here for emotional support for Ghost.
But then, this evening Sunni walked on top of Ghost while they were eating and hurt Ghost. I have been keeping Ghost in a box so she will stay warm and won’t over exert herself. But Ghost LOVES Sunni! She will hear Sunni and do everything she can to be next to Sunni. I don’t want to hold her back too much as I believe for the most part this interaction is beneficial. However, I just caught Sunni put Ghost’s right foot in her beak. I’m not sure if it hurt Ghost but I separated them. Is Sunni checking on Ghost or is this malicious behavior?
Sunni has been eating more ever since Ghost’s accident and I assumed it was “stress eating.” Not sure if budgies do that.... Sunni also was unsettled all day while we had to leave Ghost at the vet. So, I believe she was worried about Ghost. Can someone please, explain this behavior to me? Or what I should do? Thanks!
