I have posted our new aviary pictures in the aviary section of the forum.....after many talks about what we should do with the aviary we decided to make it a retirement home for budgies who were no longer needed for breeding or for budgies that are unable to be cared for by their owners....we have decided to call it St. Cuthbert's house after our first budgie who past away a few years ago....the house is up but not yet open for budgies as we have a few details to sort out.....we would like to start putting budgies in at the end of April....we are in the beginning stages so please bear with us as we want this to be as perfect as possible to any and all budgies..... We are open to all suggustions and advice.....as this is our first outside aviary..... Attachments:

What a lovely idea and to name it after your first bird too.

I mentioned on your other post that I would be very happy to retire in St Cuthbert's house if I were a budgie. I am sure all clients will enjoy their stay.

Great idea At what stage are you currently? It is up....and now we will be working on the inside and the outside during the next 8 weeks.....and we will posting more pictures in the Aviary section as we go along.... We named our first budgie after St. Cuthbert as we had been on holiday in Northumbria and it turned into a small pilgrimage to the saint as we visited many sites that are related to him.....and he has a lovely story about instituted special laws to protect the Eider Ducks and other seabirds nesting on the Farne islands which may have been the first bird protection laws anywhere in the world....the Eider Ducks are called Cuddy Ducks..... Now 2 of our 3 budgies are named after saints that are from that area.....Venerable Bede (White).....and Aidan (Lutino).....Ollie (Blue) is named after Oliver Twist as he was an orphan....and had the name when we got him..... However if budgies come to us with names....then they will keep those names....if not....I will give them names of saints.....

Your aviary is a wonderful place for budgies. I love the story about your birds and the ideas behind your mission. The world needs more people like you.

I saw the pictures of the aviary in the other thread. I am sure after insulation and so, it will be buzzing with lovely budges

Ollie showing off his back side.....I forgot to put that there is a ladder between the 2 cages....the little cage is their "holiday" cage for when they go to their Auntie's house.....but it gives them more space to play and explore.....they are allowed out to play from the time we get up until we go to sleep.....and bedtime is very easy....just say night night time and they find their favorite bedtime perch and are off to bed..... Your birds obviously want for nothing. It's such a joy to make them happy, isn't it. They are such gregarious, clever and joyous little things.
