Wow. Here they are. Aren't they incredible. I just looked up their lifespan - estimates are 80 to 100 years. The owner said 120, but may have been exaggerating. And yes, they do talk.

They are SOOOOO Beautiful! But SUCH a maintenance I have heard, seems like with these guys you really have to make it your job to look after them properly. They need so much stimulus otherwise the screeching and feather plucking begins But if you have the time and the energy they are a real splendid bird

They really aren't an amateurs bird, Sam. I agree. It seems they really are ones that shouldn't be kept captive.

Only time you could keep them captive is for the breeding programme and they would have to be in the biggest flight possible!

I was also thinking that talking about these beautiful birds, we forgot to ask about Boo's condition.

Little Boo is two days into his five day course of meds for the bacterial infection. His poops are still all wrong. I am hoping this will improve very soon. Once the bacterial infection is cleared, he'll still have a way to go, getting rid of what remains of the blockage. While that it there, I suspect he will still be susceptible to other infections.
Clearly blockages in their intestinal systems are not a good thing, with many possible complications. At least he's getting the best care possible, so I'm hoping he's going to come through this okay.
He's been very brave through all this. He really is a champion little budgie.

Poor little Boo. It's quite a big deal for you both, I think about him all the time. It's such a shame one little guy has to "come a cropper" for us to find out something is more hazardous than we'd imagined. I've removed all the stringy and papery toys from my birds now.

Poor wee Boo, sounds like he's been through the wars in the last few weeks. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery after this, he's definitely been through more than his fair share of illnesses. Good luck Boo!

Just a "mini" update.
Patient finished his course of Baytril yesterday, but his poop is still a bit green. Rang the vet and thought I'd have to take Boo out today for another rounds of tests. Instead nursey is to add Mycostatin in with the Baytril for another three days, then out to the vet next week for a check.
Aside from the ongoing poop splats, he really seems pretty good. Maybe a little less of a round-the-clock tearaway than usual, but very happy and perky. He just has a bit of down time around noon now, when he used to have his less active time more towards 3pm.
