of my two beloved birbs. My budgies both liked the outside environment, cool and fresh air rather than the environment in a house. So I'd moved them outside for a while(in the porch), one evening there was a really bad storm, but they've gone through storms like this one so I thought they'd be ok. I couldn't move them inside quickly enough, so I just covered the cage. It soon became dark. The next morning at 6am when I checked my buds, horror struck me as I approached the cage. The towel was on the floor, biggest door open. And what was that lump on the floor of the cage? I turned on the light and what I saw made me so sad. It was my darling Biscuit, dead. His head was ripped off, nowhere to be seen and what was left was disgusting blood and innards spilling out the neck. No trace of Bluey though. After a few minutes, I'd found out what the predator was. It was a Common Palm Civet Cat, which is an omnivore and common visitor to my garden. It always leaves pawprints on the pipes it climbs and yes, the marks were there, along with a bleeding feather of Bluey. Both my buds had been killed. It was utterly sad for me. There were many feathers in the cage, all along the sides. I don't understand why they couldn't escape. Maybe it was not the rain that blew open the towel and door(very strong Malaysian rains here) but the Civet Cat. Even then, they could have went out the sides. I think it's a good thing that the Civet took the head and not some other part of Biscuit, then he'd have to suffer for a long period of time. I think it's also good that he got Bluey, he'd have no idea how to survive out there. I had Biscuit for about 6 months and Bluey for about 5 months. Well, birds are over for me, they're hard to look after and somehow they didn't 'fit' into my life. I think a hamster or guinea pig is better.

Your very graphic explanation as to how your little birds died has really upset me.
I never like to lay blame at anyones door when accidents happen, but when such an accident could, and should, have been prevented......
Rest in Peace little ones xx

I wouldn’t have it any other way though. @birdlover123, are there not many predators in Malaysia that would be a huge risk to birds outside in the day and the night? I know a civit is nocturnal but how about the monkeys and snakes? I’d worry about a domestic cat here in England, let alone birds of prey, magpies, foxes and the like.
