I took delivery of a shiny new laptop today and it is so fast. I didn't really want a new one as mine was doing ok but Skype and zoom stopped working and I need them for work so here I am with a new laptop. And now I realise how slow my old one was. Webpages open instantly now and it's great. I will have more time to post things now I'm not waiting for pages to open And the webcam and sound a better so my students will benefit too.
Set up went smoothly and I think I've got all the software I needed installed now. It was a pleasure to have things installed within minutes rather than half an hour.

I had Windows 10 installed and it was pretty slow, so I ended up installing Ubuntu (Linux) in a dual boot mode on my laptop. I had been using linux most of the time for speed. Recently, due to a bug, we ended up reinstalling windows too.. and it works faster than before. It really feels good when it doesn't take time to start up and open apps.
Congratulations on your new laptop..

Thanks mona I've known I needed a new one for a while but kept puttingn it off. I've just done my first 2 skype lessons with the new laptop and the sound was excellent. The keyboard is really nice too. It feels more solid than my old one which was a bit bouncy. Typing feels really nice.

Glad you like the new laptop. I have an older laptop. A few months ago I had Windows 10 put on it. The technician said I should get a new one. But...I like it and know where everything is on it. I admit I get set in my ways. Maybe when things open up and I can go look at the newer laptops then I'll get a new one.

I still have my laptop from college with me.. and it still works after 14 years or so.. π One day, I'll be able to sell it as a vintage product π
I had bought a laptop for my mum recently, but she retired and didn't want to use it then. So, I got the laptop back, but it was too slow for my work...so we got extra RAM installed since there was a slot.. and we got another SDD installed.. and installed windows on SDD.. The existing hard disk is used only for storage now.. All of that plus windows reinstall made it super fast. I somehow cannot tolerate slow laptop/OS.. That's the reason I fell in love with Linux instead of Windows.. π

Glad itβs not just me. I still have my desktop and itβs my go to over a laptop. I have an iPad, which is so easy to have with me from room to room and convenient too, but I have no intentions of getting rid of my desktop anytime soon.

Links that are relevant are fine, ron. . The only ones we donβt allow are links to other forums, or people spruiking their own, irrelevant businesses.
