If ever there was a photo of a budgie smiling at the camera, this is it! She looks so happy with herself. Gorgeous girl!

Just relaxing on the iodine block and nosy Iris came to see what was going on.

That's an interesting place to sit. It's cute that Iris likes to know what's going on.

Do you suppose after all her time in a nest box, being "enclosed" up top there just feels most secure to her?

Could be. Unfortunately I had to throw away that shelf earlier as while removing it and getting the new cage ready I discovered a big crack filled with seed husks and I couldn't wash them out. I dread to think what other nasties could be lurking in there. I think it was mostly iodine block dust, but I didn't want to take the risk. So I'm trying to find a replacement. Meanwhile, here is Penny in the new cage.. Just cos she's cute. Do you suppose after all her time in a nest box, being "enclosed" up top there just feels most secure to her?

She is cute! She looks like she's perching well, maybe not stretching out her legs but it seems to work or her.

“Can’t a girl get any peace and quiet?” My mum used to say that whenever she felt a bit off and went for a quiet lie down, my siblings and I would always want to go in and lie down with her and cuddle in, which all sounds nice but was not the peace and quiet she was looking for. Poor Mum.

Poor Mum. I homeschooled my four children and so they were mostly with me through all their childhoods (always feel I need to add they had plenty of socialisation; meeting friends, having friends over, home education groups, sports clubs, cadets, volunteering jobs, etc.) My friends thought I was utterly mad and one bought my daughter a book called ‘Five Minutes Peace’ about a family of elephants where the mum gets followed wherever she goes, even to the bath. My bath times have always been sacred. My clan always knew when I went for my bath not to bother me! Even now they’re all grown up, my bath times remain my me time. Even in the middle of summer I have my bath and read a chapter or two of my book and relax. Poor Penny. She needs a pair of curtains to pull across when she needs her five minutes of peace.

Penny spent some time with her mates today, a few hours. I had to leave the cage open for them to come and go. At one point I looked up and she was on the outside of the cage, I slowly walked towards her and cupped my hands and she flung herself out. She seems okay, but it gave me a fright. I guess I wont be able to do that again

She’s becoming a bit of a daredevil Marianne Marlow. I bet your heart was hammering. It’s amazing how much she’s come on since you brought her home. Penny is definitely living her best life. Really nice to have an update on her.

So very nice that the others come to keep her company. Good little girl is trying to be a "normal" budgie even though she gives you a fright!

She did actually fall to the floor and I am so glad that she did not hurt herself. I wish she could realise that it's dangerous for her

Oh goodness! Didn’t realise she fell that bad. I assumed wrongly that you’d caught her and it gave you a fright that she’d hurled herself at you. What a worry that you know she can do that now. Do you think it was because you came towards her that she was either flustered or excited hence hurling herself forward or she lost her grip? Either way, it doesn’t really matter does it as the risk remains the same. It’s so lovely her friends can come and go as they wish but you must need eyes in the back of your head.
