Sorry guys, so many threads I'm making!! Lots of questions though So, now my little budgie is a female, I have to now consider do I get her a male companion or a female? I've heard from various sources that 2 hens bicker a lot? But with a male and female, are there many risks if I don't introduce an egg box?

Id say male. 2 females can fight. A male and a female can be friends without the benefits if you are worried about breeding lol My Bobby and Pepper were so in love yet never mated, like you say, just dont have any places they can nest in and you should be fine.

Aww, yeah that's ideal. Obviously can't forsee what will happen. I don't have a problem if they did want to get jiggy, but I don't have plans to breed, so if I can avoid this it's preferable. But my main concern is that they -get along-.
And btw, your two in your signature are adorable - I love white budgies!

Questions are fine, littlestar, makes life interesting. I agree with Sekhmet, though, that a cock and hen are more likely to get on that two hens. There are no guarantees, of course. It all depends on the individual birds. As for getting jiggy, even two males will get jiggy if they feel the need, and without a nest box it is unlikely a pair will play happy families. But again, no guarantees - some members have found that their birds are going to hatch chicks regardless, although this is definitely not the norm. You know your hen. Is she the aggressive, nippy type or a more placid type?

Thanks Hezz and Sekhmet for your thoughts so far. She's a lovely little bird, pleasantly shocked at how tame she already is. I had her happily perching on my hand 2 hours after bringing her home, she came out for a fly yesterday. so things are going great with her, which is why I'm so worried about messing that up! I am swaying toward a cock bird... I think it's probably safer. Assuming the one I bring home this time IS a cock bird, lol!
