Hi, I’m getting two young budgies (assuming female) from a friend,
One is more tame than the other one, so I’m wondering if getting two cages next to each other is a good idea until the grey one is more tame (it’s not nasty it’s just not as brave as the other)
Just wondering what’s best as I’ve never had a budgie, I was going to get one but I’ve read that they prefer to have a friend
Any info would help

Are both the budgies from the same owner? If so, how were their cages? Were they staying in separate cages or same? I would keep them the way they were.
Mine don't prefer to be separated.. they share the same cage. Regarding taming, one learns seeing the other.. even in same cage, if one comes closer to you, the other one might too looking at her.
Only if two females don't get along, then I would think about separate cages. More experienced members might be able to guide further.

It is not really fair to separate them unless they don’t get on, if they are coming from the same place. Usually a more tame bird helps the lesser one to understand that humans are not all bad. Budgies are a prey animal so they’ve evolved to be wary of predators, which is what we humans are to a budgie. I suggest you read through the pinned threads at the beginning of each section to find out what you need to do (and not do) to give these two the best life possible. If that still leaves you with questions, by all means ask away.
