This morning, as soon as I had opened his carrier, George started trying to climb it with his beak. He wouldn't take any water from me and clearly wanted to be back in Penny's cage, so I put him straight in. As he wouldn't drink, I put some dill in for him and also for Penny and they tucked right in.

I wish I had half the determination this little boy has. Don't worry, I put two different sets of millet in, I knew Penny would push George out of the way to get to it. Actually, she has been surprisingly good with him.

Maybe she’s glad of the company and has someone who can’t do more than her, so it’s not as frustrating that she can’t do stuff

I tried to get a photo of George and Penny sharing millet. But the moment I got close enough for a photo, Penny ran off to the back. Which meant that Daisy moved closer to George.

Loving how George and Penny are getting along. Daisy's saying, hey how about me? I want millet! She really is a lovely color.

Well, George was in Penny's cage from 8.30am until 4.40pm. Then I had to take the decision to put him back in his carrier for a rest. He was not happy with me! But he was trying to sleep with his head back and everytime a budgie landed on the outside of the cage he would wake up and wobble back and forth. He doesn't like me right now. Preening.

You are doing it for his own good.. Tough situations need touch actions for things to get better. They are forgiving.. he'll surely forget about it later with some millet bribes.. 🧡
You are really doing good! I showed all the pics to my family and they admired the setup you did for Penny as well as George, as per their capabilities.. They are so lucky to have you! 🧡
Does he perch on the ladder now?

Aww, George is doing so well. And it's nice that Penny has some company in her cage too. I'm sure he will forgive you for putting him back in his carrier.

How long did it take JoJo to recover? Bless George, he is certainly showing improvement Marianne. I think my old JoJo had 3 stroke like incidents, it takes a while but they can recover quite well, your doing all the right things to help him, baby steps If memory serves me right the first one was around 6 weeks before i saw him almost back to normal, he had a couple of smaller ones after that which were quite a bit apart, sadly each one took a little bit more out of him but with his FM and his grand age (15) that was to be expected i guess. George looks to be a strong boy, hopefully he will fight back, he certainly seems to be doing well so far

When I uncovered George I could see that he had eaten all of the millet I left for him. When I released the other budgies and they flew out from their cages, George started bouncing about and flapping. I was scared at first that he was in the throes of death, but thankfully he was just keen to leave the carrier and see his friends. He wouldn't take any water from me and flapped until I put him in with Penny. So I clipped in a basil leaf for each of them and George started nibbling his immediately. I took out the ladder and inspected the droppings that he did overnight and they look pretty good.

Oh, thank you, that is kind of you and your family. No, he pretty much ignores the ladder. He's now using the foot and wing that were paralysed before, they are just a bit weaker than the other side. You are doing it for his own good.. Tough situations need touch actions for things to get better. They are forgiving.. he'll surely forget about it later with some millet bribes.. 🧡 You are really doing good! George is finding it hard to balance on the seed troughs. So rather than keep him eating just Red millet, I have blu-tacked a lid on the platform perch in the hope that he will eat seed (added a little dry egg food) from it. Fingers crossed because he has not shown any interest in seed for the whole time he's been ill. When I picked him up this morning, I noticed that he has gained weight, which is great because he was quite skinny when he first became ill. Also, when I put millet in for him, I have to give it to Penny too and it's not good for her as she's only a tiny thing and has less exercise than the other budgies. I hope this works.

That’s a good idea! Hope he eats from it. I’m so pleased to read how well George is doing. He must be feeling better in himself to want to be up with Penny and be so excited and raring to come out his carrier in the morning. You’re doing an amazing job Marianne Marlow.
