Hi All,
Zuri is a 3-4 months old baby boy.
We took him off a breeder as he had a sprained leg (I just fell in love with him plus this breeder butchered all the birds wings- he clips them wayyy too short with blunt siccsors If I could I would taken all 100 of them) his new wings that came out during hs first molt kept falling off.
So we took him to the vet and she said he was on a very bad diet before (he lacked vitamins she could tell by his feather quality and sprained leg). This was a few months back now.
After being on our current budgie diet (plenty of sprout, Harrisons pellets, veges, lentils etc) his leg healed and his wings started to grow and he is now shiny and soft, a happy birdie.
But recently I have noticed he clicks his beak alot more, and his breathing sometimes is very fast. He does get startled easily and my other two birds are older (9 months old) so I put it down to adjusting to his new enviroment with us. But now I am concerned as I was recording them yesterday and I am not sure but I think his tail is bobbing.
I will take him back to the same vet soon for another check up, but I thought I would check with the experts (edit: experienced/passionate bird owners) on here first to assess if I need to take him in as an emergency this weekend..
He is the purple bird far right.. will take a closer video today and update it here.
Thank you x

Hi there
We're not experts on here, just people that have a shared love for budgies.
I would say that yes his tail is moving quite fast. Could be a respiratory infection or something else. Definitely worth getting him checked by an avian vet.

There is a tail bob there, but not overly, in my opinion. Some birds just naturally do, but if you are at all concerned, it is better to consult and have him checked out professionally than to go on the word of someone watching a video.

Hi all,
Update- when to a local Vet only one who had emergency appointment said she can’t see anything wrong no mites not respiratory infection etc. She told me to keep him on the Avi Pro and come back if he gets worse. I’m not convinced he’s starting to seem lethargic at times like he’s ran out breath he’s constantly sneezing (he never did before) and even his chirp sound different now, so I’ve booked him to see Donaldson’s vet in Huddersfield they have a avian vet and budgie specialist and she already said over the phone he would need antibiotics, his appointment iOS on Monday. Hopefully she can help 🤞
I’m worried now what if he got sick because I had pneumonia? Can birds get it off you, so many conflicting theories I don’t know what to think anymore. Ps it was a (post covid/long covid ) complication.
Ahhh what a time we live in.
Will keep you posted after this next appointment.
X

I'm not sure if budgies could catch this from us or not. I know I have had lots of colds (I have a compromised immune system) and my budgies have never caught any from me. Hezz what do you think?

I very much doubt that your budgie has caught COVID from you. Apparently there have been cases of cross infection to other animals in the States, but really I would take this with a grain of salt as they have been few and far between. Good luck with the vet visit tomorrow. I really hope you get some proper answers.
