I think so too. This is the best I could get from the back of her head as she doesn't like turning her back on me! Today 4th Mary 2021 no, they do look lighter... her body is certainly going through changes, in a good way

It's odd. I wouldn't have thought it possible, wonder if it's diet related?!

Could be, but then I never imagined Jasper would change colour completely from blue to a turquoise green and from looking male to becoming a very definite hen. Itās so strange but since the boys moved in, sheās become so hen-like. Theyāre good at surprising us.

It seems that Penny can climb up without her ladders now. I removed them to clean this evening and when she fell to the floor of the cage she just casually pulled herself up with her beak!
She couldn't do this before!

Re the lighter head feathers ā¦ I wonder if she is now cleaner?? Cleaner environment, no more living in a box, and time to tend to her own needs.

I don't think it's that Hezz because it's just the feathers on her head. What do you think yellowfacedviolet? can feather colour change with diet? Penny is meant to be over 5 years old, so she wouldn't have a moult that changes colour of her feathers would she? Re the lighter head feathers ā¦ I wonder if she is now cleaner?? I have to keep her in a cage most of the time as she cannot fly at all and will just fling herself to the floor. So, I sometimes put her in different cages for a change of scenery. I also put her on the floor, supervised of course, but she mostly just hides under things. Oh she is just too cute! How is she getting around the house? Did she put herself there or did you have to bring her out for some outside fun time? Awww thatās what I figured. Thatās so cute that you take her āout and aboutā so she can have some new experiences!

Re the lighter head feathers ā¦ I wonder if she is now cleaner?? Cleaner environment, no more living in a box, and time to tend to her own needs. I wouldnāt have thought this to be true if I hadnāt seen it, but feathers can change color even after being fully grown out. Our young rooster had fully grown tail feathers that started to get white stripes in them without him molting. This was just a process of him growing up, and maybe if I were studying it more closely the feather could be mostly fully grown but still have some blood supply or something, I dunno really. But my point being, I am pretty sure that diet could have an effect on her feather color. My only other guess would be that sheās molting them out very slowly, individually, at a rate that is t super obvious but the new ones are growing in a healthy normal color. I still think a proper diet would be the cause. Or maybe just a better environment generally as Hezz suggested - stress is a true killerā¦
