Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum so apologies if this isn't the place for this question.
We have two budgie's Maisie and Igor. We have a painted plywood pelmet aboVe out curtains which they like to sit on and scurry up and down.
Maisie has started biting the edge of the pelmet and I'm worried she'll ingest it and damage herself, though when I look at the pelmet you can't even see where she's been biting.
I don't want to put something up to stop them landing there as they like it, but looking for advice to either stop her biting or reassurance that she'll be OK.
Thanks in advance for any help.

When a hen decides to sit somewhere or chew something, good luck with getting her to stop. Members have tried all sorts of things - prevention works for but a short time; distraction seems to have better results. Are you able to hang another curtain rod in front to still give somewhere to perch but it not be the pelmet and hang chew toys etc along the rod to keep that busy beak busy?

Thanks, it's a bay window so I'm not sure if my DIY skills are up to another curtain rod.... I'll maybe try hooking some rope up and attaching some chew toys to that in the hope she chews that rather than the wood. Thanks

Thanks Just realised I hadn't replied to this, many thanks for the tip, I got wooden shapes from the Pet shop and put them on a string above where they sit, the seem to love pulling on the string and the resulting clunking noise it makes!

I have a female who can never be distracted with anything. When she sets an eye over something, it's difficult to get her off from there.. She will just move away for a while and go back to her mission again! She used to chew on the cage corners, so i had attached some wooden beads there.. then she learnt how to turn the food bowl, even though it's heavy. We have to clip it tight every time when we change the food bowl..
When out of cage, she just prefers to chew on anything and everything she sees. For us, fortunately the bird room is separate, so we have nothing - literally nothing other than the bird cages, tree, faux curtain rod with toys hanging from there and cage top items.. she hasn't yet learnt to come down to the floor, so the bedding on one corner of the room is still safe.. 🙈
