Hi everyone. Sorry I've been absent for so long! After Winston passed away my life has had to take a diferent direction for a while and unfortunately my brain capacity as far as the internet is concerned has only reached as far as facebook for the last 4 months. The update on the budgie front of things...I took in another 4 rehomes not long ago, Freddie, despite his tumour that affects his breathing and voice is still in the aviary with wife Randy and 4 kids is fine. Rose with the ingrowing eye feathers is costing me more than a few quid with frequent vets visits and steroid treatment. Melody has come out of the aviary for a diet as she has grown boobs that I could only dream of having! And the rest touch wood are ok! Apart from poor Della who died after 3 days of fast downhill deterioration out of the blue:/ Juliet the celestial needs the vet to trim her beak. Nutnut needs one claw trimmed (another vet job) and the dog needs all claws trimmed as shes too old to walk enough to wear them down anymore. Busy days ahead

Good to hear from you and the crew, Nat. A few of us can sympathise with the vet bills. Every asset is a liability, they say. Glad to hear Freddie and his family are still doing okay.

Lovely update, Nat. Sorry to hear of Della's passing - we can only wonder why so quickly some of our budgies are taken from us. Lovely that Freddie and Randy are still going strong and the family would be all grown up by now. Melody sounds like my Smudge - even more exercise and less seed isn't getting rid of her chest (I call her Marilyn Monroe sometimes - blonde and big busted . Good luck getting the weight off her.

Thanks everyone! Its good to be back and feeling like normal again:) From this week all the 30 budgies are having their MOT! I've decided, rather than go through them all in 2 days (which I usually do for claw trimming, weight check, etc) I'm going to catch one up for 24 hour hours every day. They then go into a hospital cage where poop is monitered and any odd things can be sorted out. Its hard to check poop of individuals in an aviary! Today started with the trimming of Juliet the celestials beak. I thought I'd put up with the biting and avoid a vets bill by doing it myself and luckily it was quicker and easier than I thought:) Next into isolation was Fuzzy(budgie). Hes looking very thin so I think tomorrow I'll have to set up a san remo and make it the 'weight gainers' temporary accomodation:) Fuzzys hen is enourmous so I reckon he must be donating too much food to her. Got him on guardian angel for now and a big stick of millet spray:) Droppings are plentiful and healty though:) Not sure If I'll find much skinny company for him though, but when Freddie knows theres millet spray and hemp seeds in there he'll probably move in of his own accord LOL! I can see that Mel might have a few mates joining her in her weight watching so a san remo will have to up for them too! Lol, at this rate the aviary will be half empty!

I don't know what is worse - a thin budgie or a tubby one! Sounds like you have got a good system going, giving them the once-over. I hope there are no nasty surprises to be found.

I don't want her going through anything like Bluey's problems (although Blue was never fat at any stage).

Fully understand Hezz - allthough we know how personal a bird can be they are still not humans and they have a completey different make up to ours. But I still love your tubby little hen ;D

Yesterdays health check victim was Cyril, Roses boyfriend. Hes good and healthy and just needed one long claw trimmed. Oh, but what a fuss he made! I was astonished at how cowardly he was considering I bred him a few years ago and he was so tame when he left the nestbox! Todays health check victim was Romeo the celestial (Juliets boyfriend) No probs with him:) Tomorrows angry bird will be..... Fuzzys overweight girlfriend Polly. Shes definately going to be a member of weight watchers. No boobs but shes as round as a beachball. I agree Hezz, fat or thin, whats worse! I suppose it depends on the reasons why they are that way? Lol, maybe I should do a thread on their health check?

Ha ha, poor Cyril making a fuss over one long claw being trimmed Did he squeal? - some of mine do when I trim a long claw. Sky goes Ballistic when you try and hold him.
