As you may know, Dewey died yesterday after a brief illness. Although I did all I could for her, I think she was just too weak to fight it at the end.
I bought Dewey, along with her friend Huey, in March 2016. They were about six months old. Sadly, Huey died after three months, which is how I got Louie to be her new friend.
Once they had settled in together, it was funny to see how different their personalities were. Although she was slightly smaller than him, she was a little pocket rocket when flying around, and when younger, she used to love chewing her way through the rungs on the play gym.
While Louie was (and still is) a busybody and chatterbox, Dewey had a quieter nature with a sweet whistle and had a lovely bright blue plumage. It was amusing to watch Louie being a fusspot with her, with his seemingly endless chatter and she would sometimes just stand there as if saying, “what ARE you on about?”. She always enjoyed his preening sessions but if he stopped she would still stand there with her head tilted as if to say, “well, why have you stopped?”. Although I never saw Dewey preen him, maybe she thought it was beneath her.
Thankfully I have many photos and videos of Dewey going back over the last five years, bringing back happy memories. It’s still sad when I look over to the cage and she’s not there, I think it’s the first time that Louie’s been on his own. He seems happy but he looks so lonely now.
I’m having Dewey cremated, but instead of scattering her ashes on a cold, dull November day I will wait for a bright, sunny day in the spring, just like the first time I brought her home.
Goodbye Dewey, my beautiful girl, reunited with Huey.

Ahh, that's better, now right just a little
That's better, now that I've chewed that upper perch away there's plenty of room now
