Hello everyone, I am new here and seeking advice, comfort? and possible solutions. I have just moved back to the UK from Canada and my husband and budgie Hooper are following me. They arrive on Tuesday. All paperwork and pet agents both countries are on working on ensuring everything goes smoothly. However my pet agent in Canada and I had a catch up call yesterday he mentioned to me that British airways were following the IATA guidelines for the carrier by the book and he was trying to persuade them that they have custom made the carrier with holes drilled on the bottom of the carrier and elsewhere to ensure to meet a specific percentage of ventilation and airflow but BA insists that they need to meet the exact guidelines and he tried to explain that he had concern about the draught it would bring with the ones required on the sides. I am now worried about the cargo hold temperature generally? Is it too cold for my budgie and considering the weather of November? Do they cover the carrier when taking it out of the airplane to transport to the pets reception?I can't seem to reach anyone at BA. Is there a special part of the cargo hold warmer than the rest? Do you think we should add some padding inside? Fleece lining or something? I am now very worried. Please let me know from your experiences. I would be very grateful for any tips to keep him warm in the carrier. Sina

Hi Sina, sorry I can’t be of much help, but I can put your mind at rest regarding the temperature that animals are kept at while on the plane. My son is an airline captian and he told me that they are kept separate from luggage etc and the Captian controls the temperature in the part of the plane where they are kept…… What you need to find out is the bit where they are transported from the plane….. I will see if I can find anything out for you.

I'm not sure i'll get a response here since this thread has not been active for years but I am facing this dilemma now.
I would like to know how the OP got one with the travel and any advice on keeping the crates warm for budgies.
I flew my 2 cats with BA and they were very well cared for.

That's a shame. I would be travelling from Singapore to the UK. I've heard mixed things from various people so I'm not sure what's the best decision.
