As I was walking towards a crossing on the way to the shops I noticed a crow sitting on a 6ft wall at the edge of the pavement. It was looking at the person already waiting at the crossing and looking across the road. When the crossing turned green the crow flew across the road to the tree opposite. It's probably a complete coincidence but it made me smile thinking that the crow might have been using the crossing.

You never know! I read an article about birds flying south for the winter. The person who did the study wrote that birds use landmarks as navigation guides. These days the most obvious landmarks are the highways which are very noticeable from a distance. Flocks have been using them as guides south for the winter, north for the summer.

He looked like he was having fun. On the way back there were 4 of them sitting on the roof of the house next to the crossing, looking like they were plotting some mischief. tweetiepiesmom It's fascinating that birds make use of human structures like that. Birds are really amazing.

Crows are very intelligent animals, enough that ornithologists sometimes call them "feathered apes". I wouldn't be surprised if it actually learned how to use a crosswalk!
