They are resurfacing the road at the end of our street. There is a constant loud hum from generators even though the double glazing and there is sound of machinary too and some occasional metallic thumping. I'm not complaining as the roads need to be resurfaced but I feel sorry for the people closer to it and for the workmen who are out working on such a cold night. There is already a frost on the cars.
I hope my birdie boys aren't frightened. I can't hear any noises from their room. They're used to the hum of the air purifier during the day so hopefully they don't mind. I won't be surprised if they need a few naps tomorrow. The road is closed again tomorrow night too but hopefully they'll have moved further along the road by then.
It's quitened down a bit now - just the generator noise at the moment. So I shall head off to bed before it gets noisy again!

Luckily its only for a short time so if they are frightened, it won't last long. Maybe spending a little time talking softly to them will help.
Thank goodness its winter so you have the windows closed. When they resurface the roads here, its a very strong chemical smell. Any smell that might get inside your house should be taken care of by the purifier. If you like to walk, give it a week or so to cure before you walk on it (such as crossing the street). It could really mess up the soles of your shoes.

Thanks tweetiepiesmom , I won't walk on it for a while. The boys slept fine judging by their droppings. It was only me that was disturbed. My OH got to sleep no problem too.
I've not been out to look but it sounds like they haven't put the top surface on yet, so I expect that's what they'll be doing tonight, and that is going to smell awful. I hate the smell of tar.

Me too, putrid
A house that our communal grounds share a fence with, they’re about to do side, back and lift extension. I’m absolutely dreading it. My bedroom is that side and workman can do 8-6 weekdays, 8-1 Saturday.
If at least 9am, wouldn’t feel as bad. But I fit out there too in the summer.
Hate disruption

We had the road resurfaced a couple of years ago with work going on through the night. Thanks to my medication I sleep well (minus the menopausal night sweats and nightmares) but my daughter has a triple aspect room and couldn’t escape the noise. I’m not overly bothered by the mechanical sounds but the workmens’ voices shouting to one another was a different story as it’d start the dogs barking. I empathise criswell.

It's not so noisy tonight. We're not close enough to hear workmen so that's a relief. I've not been outside tonight so I've not been able to smell anything. Hopefully it won't smell much tomorrow.
It's new noises that tend to bother me. I'm used to the little bit of traffic noise that there is over night but people walking past and talking wakes me up if the window is open. One summer our neighbour used to sit outside in his car with the engine running in the middle of the night. That woke me up so many times.
The side road that we live on badly needs resurfacing but that would be a day time job as it's a no through road. I expect its way, way down the list of priorities though.

I love a bit of traffic noise. Mostly we have tractors and agricultural machinery rumbling past but I love the sound of a bus especially when it’s rainy. I don’t know why but it’s like a comfort noise as I wonder who’s on the bus and where they’re going while I’m lying snuggled in bed. Peoples voices however is a different matter. Your neighbour must have had money to burn doing that!

I think he must have ariella. A couple of times I thought about going outside and telling him to turn his engine off but thought better of it at 1 or 2am! It's hard to distinguish buses from the other traffic noise here. No tractors around though, mostly cars and lorries going past the end of the road. The newly surfaced road looks very smart with it's bright yellow lines. It makes our road look even more in need of repair.

I used to live on a busy main road, which was constant traffic. that was ok as it was flowing.. but if it is stop start etc, revving.. no way!
I can so easily fall asleep in front of the TV, but when I am in bed, I need quiet. I do use ear plugs cos of the noise downstairs to me and if I am on holiday/away from home.
I would have needed 10 ear plugs in each ear in hospital though, lol

I notice the noise at lot more at my mum's house in the early mornings as traffic goes right past her house so I tend to wake up a lot earlier than I normally would. I don't tend to sleep well when I'm not in my own bed so that's probably got something to do with it too.
