There are a lot of sweets I liked as a kid that I'd like to try again now, but they have either pork or beef gelatine in them, so I cannot.

I know what you mean Marianne Marlow, and they probably wouldn't taste the same anyway It's amazing the amount of rubbish I used to eat though. As ffiscool said, it's no wonder I have so much trouble with my teeth. Definitely should have married a dentist I loved a bag of cherry lips too suesbird. There's something nice about buying a quarter of sweets in a little paper bag. I think shops like that are few and far between now but there was one where one of my relatives used to live down south. The shop gave away the big plastic sweet jars once they were finished them so my cupboards currently have big bon bon jars full of porridge oats and Edinburgh rock jars full of rice etc

Ooooh my favourite topic, sweeties Im my dentists worse nightmare too willowsmum . I remember walking to visit my nan with my mum on a Saturday, i was only little and it was a six mile round trip for little legs. To get me home, without me moaning too much, she would bribe me with the wonderful sweet shop we would pass half way. We would get a quarter of coconut mushrooms, a quarter of toasted teacakes and some coconut macaroons, nom nom. The sugar rush was enough to propel me the rest of the way home. I blame my mum bless her, my dentist knows this . Now where did i put that bag of milk teeth

I forgot about those! Love coconut
That was a long way to walk!
It’s like most things, music, sweets, the old ones are best
I also remember Tonibell ice cream, in plastic football things

I'm so glad it's not just me with teeth I have spent a fortune on my teeth and now I need to spend another fortune getting them look presentable as my gums are receding (old age) and you can see the bottom of my crowns and gums. Only way forward is to take my old crowns off and have new ones fitted. About 6 of them!!!! Pear drops were one of my favourites and treacle toffee. My aunty used to make the best treacle toffee. Yep that's why the dentist loves me too.

Awful when you think, the amount we were allowed to eat
My bottom teeth are horrible from where I had nerves removed. V discoloured.

I'm trying not to think about teeth and focusing on the sweets (although I think that's what caused the problems in the first place ) Toasted teacakes, yum, I'd forgotten about them! 6 miles is a long way for little legs skysmum. I know a lot of adults who would have to be bribed to walk that far! In fact my sister does fill her pockets with sweets and snacks if she's attempting anything over a mile that doesn't have a cafe at the end with her hubby. Not really a fitness thing, just he would rather be watching the football me thinks

I liked rhubarb and custards and pear drops. I've never liked coconut very much so used to avoid the coconut sweets.
I liked Chewits which you can still get. I loved the advert with the monster that found chewits chewier than Barrow-in-furness bus depot. I had no idea where Barrow-in-Furness was as a kid.
It is a shame that lots of sweets have gelatine in them so I can't eat them either.

The Candy Kitten sweets are nice for a treat. My daughter and her boyfriend like them a lot and she likes vegan marshmallows (she’s not vegan but it’s one way to ensure no gelatine). I like the Wild Strawberry ones. Very moreish. I also discovered that Aldi did their own version and they taste very much like Candy Kittens at a much cheaper price.
