It's good that Dexter is doing well criswell. 3 cage-mates is a lot to lose. Maybe his experiences have helped him to understand what's happening.

I don't think it was your fault at all. Like you said, it was just his time.

Thank you all.
Dexter was just being a bit quiet but now I've left the room he's singing his head off again. When I'm upset it always upset the budgies too so I will stay away for a while as I don't want to stress him. David is keeping him company and as long as I can hear Dexter singing I shall leave them to it.

I'm just now waking up to this sad news. He sounds like such a fighter living with the virus and enjoying life. As others have written, when something happens to our budgies we wonder if somehow we contributed to it. I don't know how the virus affected his other organs but I also think it was just his time to go. Enjoy fields of millet and the warmth over rainbow bridge little Dean Stockwell.
Wishing you and David a quick recovery from covid and glad that Dexter is adjusting.

I’m so sad to hear this criswell. Bless the little chap, he was so loved. I think his burial was probably a moment you needed for yourself and I hope you got to say a special goodbye. I agree with the others that it wasn’t due to anything you did; it was simply his time to go and reunite with the others. Hope you and David are soon feeling much better and Dexter continues to adapt to the change. I’m glad he’s singing.

Gosh, I’m so sorry. What a shock for you. Be gentle with yourself, sounds like you’ve a lot to deal with just now.

Thank you tweetiepiesmom, ariella and starrymist. And everyone else too. Your kind words really do help. I knew that little Dean Stockwell wouldn't get to an old age and that the virus was quite advanced but it's still a shock losing him so suddenly. He was such a tiny little budgie. I expect the virus affected his growth. He didn't let that stop him though and he was a feisty little guy who always wanted to be involved in everything. He had a good last day with nothing obviously wrong, doing all his usual budgie things and I'm glad about that. Dexter is still singing away. I'm glad that he's taking it in his stride. He flew round the room few times earlier on, calling for Dean Stockwell, and then he sat on the cage looking all around to see where he'd gone but I'm glad he's settled down now.

Thank you stevexDexter's even been singing when he's in the lounge but he panics if anyone goes near his cage. He got scared when David took Dean Stockwell out of the cage this morning so I think he's worried that we are going to do something bad to him. I've scared him a couple of times just coming into the room. I can hear him calling now, which isn't unusual when David's in the room without me. Usually both of them would be calling for me to come in. He's gone back to singing again now.

I am so sorry that you have lost Dean Stockwell, criswell. He had as happy and comfortable a life as he possibly could under your tender care, and it sounds as though he made the most of his life right up to the end. RIP little man. Xxx

Thank you Hezz . He was my brave, funny, noisy and naughty little buddy. After Randolph Carter died he even tried to take over chasing Dexter off his swing at night - he'd sit near him and pull his tail and squiggle at him but Dexter didn't take any notice so he'd give up and get back on his own swing
Dexter wasn't sure what to do at bedtime. He sat on a perch for a while, looking at all the empty swings and then decided to sleep on Dean Stockwell's swing. It's nearly 4 years since he was last on his own. I hope he sleeps well.

I hope so, too. . It’s hard seeing the lone one in the cage all by themselves when you are used to the usual bedtime antics. It broke my heart seeing Spyro all alone in his big cage when I lost Misty, and that more than anything prompted me to act in getting him a friend. I really think it affected me more than Spyro, to be honest.
