He seems okay in himself. The amount of weight he puts on the foot varies. He does have a lump there that hasn't gone down, so it could be the start of arthritis. Just seemed odd that it was partway through the day that the limp started. Perhaps it was developing and he then hurt it and triggered the limping. He is still able to use the foot. Hezz he has lost weight, as has everyone other than Pippin (who is, of course, the one who needs to lose weight...). Yuki weighed in the same yet doesn't feel as skinny. I think everyone needs an extra meal except Pippin, and Munchy needs a few of them in peace so he can get his full share. This was Munchy being a pancake and worrying me a little because he was actually letting me caress his beak and attempt to remove the seed husk on his cheek, only to then fly out of the cage when I turned my back for half a minute. So I just left him to it, even though the others had gone to bed, and he flew into the bathroom when OH went for a shower and sat on top of the cubicle.

Munchy is a lovely boy. I hope very much that he gets past this ailment, whatever it is.

Hopefully. It's a little red looking on the sole under where the lumpy bit is, but the skin seems intact.

Poor little Munchy, he looks so round there.
Hope he's around for a good few years yet.

I will pass on your well wishes to him, jellybean He is, Marianne Marlow. He gets a very round looking chest every so often, usually when he's under the weather. It never fully goes away but sometimes it's worse than others. He's currently out with the others but keeping to himself. At present he is lying on the newspaper on top of the travel cage, which is up on top of the desk. He's making me hunt to find him today.

It's possible that he scratched it on the playgym they were all on, as it was shortly after the scuffle over there that I noticed him limping. But he could have done it before whilst I wasn't watching, because I didn't see him moving around much between foraging first thing and the limp.

We attempted some photos but it's hard to get the feet in focus. It looks like he may have scraped some skin off of a toe tip. He seemed to be walking worse today, but perhaps it felt a bit better yesterday and he overdid it. Not really sure what to do for him, beyond book a vet check up next week if it's not improving. Putting tumeric on his food yesterday did not go down well. 😂

If so, antibiotics might be necessary but I think you would have seen the need for them by now, if that were the case.

Great photo of his scaly feet, that first one, Ira. . It doesn’t look infected, I doubt AB’s would be of any benefit, but you know all that. The other thing I was going to ask about but your photos have answered was to consider the possibility of gout although it would seem that gout is not that common. Try cayenne pepper if he wasn’t fussed on the turmeric. For the scrape you can put it straight on as a pain reliever, or moisten a blob into a little paste ball and “put under the tongue”. Well, good luck with that last bit, but they are the instructions for giving orally to birds. Personally, I would do the natural remedies as much as he will allow for an accepted amount of time for the foot to begin to improve if he has hurt it such as a twist or sprain, watching him closely (isolation may be needed) and then see if you need professional help.

I will give that a go, Hezz . Maybe I'll ask OH to stand there and record it, and see how long it takes me to get him to cooperate. He's still in his own cage and the others are leaving him be when he's out, except when Gwen's being henny and he gets caught in the crossfire, but mostly I've been giving him a little outside time to stretch his wings once the others have gone in for the evening. His flight is slower but I think he knows landing is going to be uncomfortable. OH got a photo of the offending foot when he put Munchy's food in. (Honestly, I give him a tiny flat plate so he doesn't have to stand on it, and he still stands on it.)

Poor little guy. It does look like he's only using the foot for balance and not putting much weight on it. I must say I don't know much about gout in birds. When I took my two to the vet last week, she said she's seeing more fat budgies and budgies with gout recently. Hope its just a little scrape and heals soon.
