A final update for this thread from me (probably). This is the third day of Herman's introduction into the Flock. He is adapting very well, faster than the rest of the flock if I'm honest. Herman was a bit full-on at first, trying to make friends with everyone. Everyone has been slower to take to him but I see the tolerance for Herman's gauche and brash behaviour growing a little. I think the funniest aspect (as long as no one gets hurt) is Chocobo's aggression towards Herman, chasing him away almost without fail, with Herman determined to make friends with her nonetheless. Seeing her lunging at Herman, turning away and then Herman bouncing straight back to nibble her tail feathers is the nerviest and funniest thing I see on a daily basis. Patch, who gets on with everyone, tolerates Herman with almost no friction. Everyone else is keen to put poor Herman in his place most opportunities, but with all of them, including Chocobo, Herman wears them down with his never-give-up attitude. If you are wondering why I decided to end Herman's one-to-one training at this point, it is simply this. Non-budgie life is set to get busy soon and I have tasks to accomplish and activities to pursue. I cannot carry these out and still give a singleton bird the amount of care and attention they need. The decision ultimately was an easy one, and for the good of the young budgie. Finally, the big question I was asking myself before ending Herman's isolation: will Herman quickly forget me? I learned a lesson or two with my experience with Squeak, and Patch, and was determined not to repeat the mistakes. Day 3 of Flock Life: It may take a few attempts but Herman remains mostly hand-tame. Earlier I had Herman on one hand and Mr Hibs on the other, for several minutes. I'm so happy The star of this thread:

I find that the more budgies in the flock, the easier a newcomer will settle in.
If you keep up offering your hand to him, he should stay semi tame.

So happy for you that Herman has decided that you are part of the flock. He does seem to adapt quickly and well to any changes. Keep it up Herman!
