I would guess that it's the leaves but it's not something I've ever fed my buds. It doesn't grow very much around here in Scotland.

Oh, heavens, I used to make chains out of this stuff as a kid, biting holes in the stem. I never knew what it was called. Didn’t kill me, yet. . Sounds like it has a few herbal properties, and is not considered toxic at all.

We used to do the same with daisies Hezz. Mallow seems more exotic somehow

From the dry inland of Australia where flowers were a luxury, daisies were way more exotic! . And a daisy chain would have looked much prettier than a string of mallow.
