Charlie is three now. We have always covered him up for bedtime at about 8-30. He knows when it’s near bedtime and starts repeating Night Night sleep tight and make sure the bed bugs don’t bit, go on your perch. These last few weeks he has also started coming out of his cage and sitting right near my face and staring at me, clearly wanting to be put back in his cage for bed….. This seems funny and cute but he is doing it earlier all the time, starting now at 7-30. He clearly is tired and wants to be covered up…..but he is now getting over 12 hours covered up….. What do you think?

So cute, that he knows when to say it.
Is he up earlier, is he very active in the day, moulting?
Max was covered 11-12 hours and he’d often take himself in and wait, earlier.

12-13 hours sleep is perfectly normal as far as I can tell, from my research and my experience with my young flock (6-14 months old).

My hubby uncovers him at the same time each morning. He has never been a very active bird, he spends a lot of his time talking. He can come out when he wants, but only really sits and plays with me. Yes he moults about once a month, he is a show budgie.

If he’s fine in every other way, maybe it’s just he’s a little bit older now

My two boys start chirping at me to uncover them between 7:30-8:00am. With the longer days, they are now going back into the cage around 7pm and I usually cover them about 7:30pm. They are getting about 12 hours of sleep. They are both around 2 1/2 years old.

My two also start chirping before they are uncovered at around 7:00-7:30am and of course with sunrise getting earlier I can look forward to their dawn chorus even earlier! As for bedtime, they are always in and settled by early evening before I finally put the cover on by 8pm, so I think about 11-12 hours is normal.

My first budgie I got last week. He is a rescue budgie, his age is unknown. He is very chirpy and tame and he enjoys flying around the house and siting on my head, hands and shoulders. He likes to play games with me too when he is out of his cage.
Its taken him a while to get used to his bedtime routine because he is always active and playful.
I was never planing on having pet budgies. This budgie came to me unexpectedly and I wasn't sure I would be keeping him but after a few days I just felt a bond and decided I'm keeping him.
I got him some other budgie friends but sadly one of them has become very ill after one day. Hopefully the rest will be ok.

lordpurchase I've read and posted in your other thread. Best wishes for you and your two little friends. I hope you can get some expert reassurance and advice from an avian vet.

We have just recently come out of daylight savings here in Adelaide (Australia) and it gets dark around 6.30pm. We don't cover Loki until about 7.30pm. He is in our computer room, covered and we have the door ajar and then go down to the lounge to watch TV.
I am always worried that he can obviously hear the TV and then us getting ready for bed with electric toothbrushes etc. My husband says we cant stop doing our daily things, which is true. Loki always seems happy in the morning and looks like he gets enough sleep, so it must be okay.
Is anyone else in this situation?

I find that normal noises don't bother my budgies. Light after bedtime is a different matter but even so, they tolerate the light of the TV as long as their cages are covered.
