Hi I want to buy 2 budgies. Not had any since I was young. The large flight cage I like as 15mm bar spacing. Is that to wide please? Also I want to get 2 baby budgies and get them tame. Should I get 2 boys and is there anything I should look out for when buying please. Thank-you

Ideally, the bar spacing should be less, around 9mm. I have two male budgies but many people have a male/female pair. I would suggest that you get one budgie and take 3-4 months to tame it and get it used to you and your routine and then get the second one. Others will be along with their suggestions. Hope you have a lot of fun when you get the new budgies.

12mm bar spacing is acceptable for budgies; anything larger is potentially dangerous. Two boys will be more inclined to rub along together well as opposed to a male and female or two hens. Do not get them anything to sleep in - budgies are perchers at night. Steer away from cotton ropes and any tassels on toys should be cut down as short as possible. If knotted, tie off with a cable tie as tight as possible before cutting as short as you can. Cotton fibres are long and strong and do not break down in a bird’s gut plus being strong the birds cannot break them if they get entangled, which can lead to death of the bird.
