Hi everyone, I've had a single budgie for about a year and a half and I've been thinking about getting him a companion. If I do it, it will be another male. My question is a difficult one, but if I do introduce another bird, subject to the usual quarantine procedures, how likely is he to be accepting of a cagemate after this length of time? Is it a good idea? Thanks

Most often a male budgie is willing to add another to his flock - the more, the merrier.

As Hezz said, males are usually accepting of other budgies into their flock. I had a single male for 8 years and he took a little persuading to realise that having bird company was a good thing after we moved out of the family home but even he enjoyed having a small flock around him after a while. At least in terms of having company, he still preferred doing his own thing and got a bit put out if they tried to spend too much time with him.
