The lack of avian vets within 100 miles or more of my location is frustrating and stressful. I've canvassed all the local surgeries with in a reasonable distance, none of them is confidence-inspiring. I've the tools to do the job but there is no one in my immediate circle whom I trust to hold a bird safely while I work. Too bad that I'm not in touch with the ex-gf (never imagined me saying that LOL!)

Hmmm ... Chocobo super-friendly and scoping out cosy (aka nest) sites throughout today. A weighing tomorrow morning is needed. Just what I need if it is what I think it is.

Yes I know I'm lucky to have three AV's within 15 miles of where I live. Two of those are very good, one is good and has extended hours in the evening/weekend and I'd feel ok to take my guys to her in an emergency.

Inexperience can easily lead to a broken leg, especially when the leg is as fine as a budgie’s. You are very lucky, tweetiepiesmom.

I don't believe this. I carved off a chunk of pear for Chocobo which she sampled but she was distracted by me eating the rest of the pear. I had to offer her some of mine so that she could be sure we had the same stuff. She then went back to her piece. She's becoming a real Madam.
Edit: Just weighed her, no sign of any weight gain. Phew!

Chocobo reminds me of Eve. She always wants some of my food (if it's sweet!!) even if we have the same thing.
Eve also loves pear.

I'll bet Eve is nearly as much work, too!

They just don't believe they've gotten the same as what you have. Surely you've given the best portion to yourself!
About a week or so ago, I was sitting eating sweet potato fries (very low salt and oil) and Buddy landed on my shoulder. I held one up for him to nibble, he took a bite and ran away. I offered him another bite which he took but didn't come back for more. Guess he decided it was not to his liking.

I constantly deny all my birds the best food and provide only the poorest of rations.
You can trust them on that!

The Aspect of Kakariki Ownership that Isn't in the BrochureChocobo has been very affectionate for the past few days. I've been watching her weight in case this is another egginess issue but so far no sign of weight gain.
She's been hopping onto me with very little persuasion required, I don't need any food-bribes half the time. It's been lovely. Unfortunately, I have learned something I suspected yesterday and had confirmed, today. Chocobos are carnivorous.
This morning Chocobo joined Smudge & Boba, playing on Daddeh. The two budgets were exploring and giving me little love bites. Chocobo, her love being so much stronger, has giving me love-welts and actually drew blood. I was attempting to train her to moderate her nibbles using the tried & trusted "shriek when it hurts" approach. That might work for budgies but chocobos are fearless and determined.
I have therefore, reluctantly, had to remove daddehs from the menu. Chocobo-daddeh interactions in future will be strictly policed!

She's a vicious little wotsit isn't she!! There's no malice in her. She just wanted to see what would happen (beyond Daddeh yelling at her.)

Oh I am sure she didn't realise she was hurting you. Maybe she was trying to preen your non existent feathers

How is Chocobo doing? Hopefully not egg laying again?
I remember you mentioning before that when she starts to pay you a lot of attention it could be a sign.
