Our female budgie was sick for 3 weeks ago where we had to go to the vet.
Since her energy was low and she dident eat much and her poo was very greenish. So we got some medicine for her stomach to inject her with thru the beak. And after few days she was doing fine again.
Now she is in the molting period and has several pins in her head. She eats and drinks and wants to sit on my finger or shoulder.
But recenty she seems very sillent. Normaly she sits near the window and calls loud for other birds or climbs around on the playground and bites in things. But now she just sits inside her cage and sleep or being very idle. She dosent say much either. We need to take her out of the cage. Often she just climbs inside again.
She dosent look sick but is being very idle. So we think its time to get another budgie for her.
Could it be she is depressed or bored. ?
She dosent want to interact with my mother or other girls or woman. Even tho my mother tryed to talk to her and sit hear cage.
So getting a male budgie and remove every possible nest places and stuff. Would that work out ? or getting another femal budgie...unless this one also gets depressed due to seeking males.

A heavy molt takes a lot out of a budgie. My little Buddy is just coming out of a heavy molt. While he was molting, my usually very loud, energetic guy was very quiet and didn't move as much. Continue to feed her a variety of foods and increase the protein in her diet. Well cooked hard boiled eggs chopped in her food is good for her. Others will have additional good suggestions for you. Make sure she has perches with bumps or similar items for her to scratch her head on.
I would not get another friend for her until she finishes molting (maybe 3 more weeks) and then you can observe her behavior. If she's back to her normal self, then you can get a second budgie if you want one. If she still seems droopy, take her to an avian vet to be checked out. The vet can advise you if a friend for her will be good.

I see. Is the molting season same time for pet budgies ? And how long time does it take from day 1 ? We did ask the vet and she suggested us to buy another budgie for her. But she dident say male or female. Also the vet wasent a specialist in birds. But they where able to help us out with medicine. Now she is registred at the vet
regarding food, then she dosent eat anything beside seeds. We tryed everything and could make her eat abit of minced carros and minced brocoli. But now she is tired of that it seems.
Also she does scratch her head on the playgrounds and i was also allowed to scatch her with my nose once

Molts vary in time duration. This heavy molt that my Buddy went through lasted about 4 weeks. Poor little guy had a mass of pin feathers all over his head. They are itchy and scratching their head on something helps break the keratin sheath on the new feathers so it can emerge. Budgies don't all molt at the same time. I'm not sure what triggers a molt. My two guys are affected more by the heavy molt than by a lighter one.
Try hanging a wet leafy green in her cage - parsley, basil, dill. She may like getting her head wet and most budgies will take to nibbling a leafy green. You may have to hang it in her cage several days before she tries it. Don't give up, its good for her.
Do you have an avian vet near you? They will give you the best advice. Some regular vets are very gifted when it comes to birds others just know what they learned in the couple bird courses they were required to take. I would still hold on getting another budgie until after she's finished with her molt.

I meant to add that you should be aware that budgies pay more attention to one another than to people. If you get her a friend, she will bond more with the new budgie than with you. She may still come and play with you. That's why I suggest you wait until after the molt is done. Then you can see how active she becomes and friendly to you. If she doesn't seem happy once she's feeling better after the molt, she may be sick or just lonely for a budgie friend.

As TPM has already said, moulting can take quite a toll on a budgie’s energy levels. Replacing the dropped feathers requires a lot of energy so increasing the amount of protein in the diet can be helpful - hard boiled egg or commercial dried eggfood is good for this. A hard boiled hen’s egg is more beneficial but needs to be removed from the cage after a few hours whereas the dried eggfood can be left in the cage for the duration of the moult.

Nice support in here Thats why i like this forum. Today she was more alive and the pins seems to decrease But today my mother had allready looked on a blue baby budgie from a breeder while i was on work. So i guess i have nothing to say.. But they where first ready to be sold in 2 month. But she reserved one out of the 5 and its gona be a male. So we hope its a male among the 5 baby blues My mother wants a bird that bond with her also. Then we can be human and bird couples

Just remember that if you bring a new budgie into the house, you should quarantine it away from your hen for 30 days to make sure it isn't carrying a disease. If you keep the two budgies together, they will bond with one another but you'll also need to keep an eye on them to make sure they get along. The best chance of getting the new budgie to bond with your mother is to keep them separate. Others may have other/better ideas for you.
Glad you little girl is feeling better today.

Yes you where all right She is being her self now. Also her stuffed nose seems to be clear today. But i notice her "nose" is changing colours. Half of the nose is starting to get white and the other half is still this brown crust colour like on my profile picture. Why is this happening ? It it cuz of the breeding period and females ? I dident knew molting would do this to budgies. We had budgies when i wasa kid for over years ago and they also molted but wasent like our budgie now. So i guess that each budgie has ther own up and down time with molting. But im still looking forward for the male budgie my mother bought. It just hatched from the egg last week. So we must wait 2 month the breeder says. He has some blue males now but they are sold. So unless they are not picked up,then we get one. My mother wants it to be named Viggo...Im trying to find better names.

She may be either going into or out of breeding condition. If you post a picture, people will be able to tell you if that looks normal.
Glad she's back to her normal happy self.

A heavy moult can bring a hen out of breeding condition. Breeding condition happens when the season is right and food is plentiful - very easy with pet birds. The moult has put some added stress on her and so now is not the optimum time to breed, hence her cere returning to a pale blue/white. The rest of the brown crust may or may not dislodge itself with a little help with rubbing on a perch.

So female budgies do change cere colours during mating/breed time. And yes it looks pale/white blueish.

So female budgies do change cere colours during mating/breed time. And yes it looks pale/white blueish. Yes, they do. They have a fertile/non-fertile cycle like all female animals … I can’t think of any who don’t … but some budgie hens never lose their crusty cere while others seemingly never come into breeding condition. Most, though, go through the regular cycles.
