Hi
We want to put new carpet in the lounge where the boys will be. Before birds I would’ve had it treated with carpet guard for spills or do carpets these days come with it in already? I’ll ask my carpet shop.
We can air the room before they go on it. How long would you suggest and once it’s aired is it safe for them?
i always come straight here for knowledge and reassurance!
Thanks in advance
ps how do I get my new photo to be up the right way?!?

Hello JennyB. Who are the two little cuties about to fall off your shoulders?? 😁 Not sure about your photo but Marianne Marlow has fixed them before. Carpets I don’t have either, but could you ask your vet surgery? The nurses would probably be able to help.

My best advice is to ask the carpet supplier if it has been pre-treated for stains. If it has not been pre-treated, I would not treat it for stain resistance. Put down bamboo mats or something similar around the cage to protect the carpet from the birds. Once the carpet is installed, I'd give it a couple of weeks to outgas before putting the birds in the room. When you leave the room with the new carpet for a few hours and then go back in, can you smell it? Be aware that the fumes will travel throughout your house so the birds should be as far away from that room as possible. Air out the house as often as possible. I haven't had carpet in some time but, as I recall, there is a product that you can sprinkle on the carpet and then vacuum up to get rid of odors. Baking soda may also work. Try a small area behind a door first to make sure its ok. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. The boys can stay at my parents while the carpet is being aired of for a couple of weeks. I’ll give the vets a ring too as Hezz suggested.
They’re Danbury who’s 4 now and Peri just turned 1. They were besties from the moment they met. Thanks marianne for turning us up the right way!

I’d definitely give it a few weeks & would have the windows opened as much as possible to air the carpet.

And a fan running, if you have one.
