I've started calling my dad in Ireland everyday so looking to make it cheaper. I'm currently paying 19p a minute and I've already spent £12 this week. He only has a mobile so that makes a bit more expensive. I'm learning towards Lycamobile based on price (3000 minutes for £10). Does anyone have any experience with them? Or any other recommendations?
Has anyone used Skype to call an overseas mobile? They are offering a free trial month (400mins for free) and after that it's £6.15 a month.

Does your dad own a computer/tablet? You could try Zoom which is free for the first 45 minutes. I am part of a Zoom group of knitters and we have members from Canada and Australia.

Thanks for the suggestions ffiscool and tweetiepiesmom . I'll have a look at O2 My dad has only just mastered using a mobile phone so I think zoom and WhatsApp might be a step to far at the moment. When I go over to visit him I'll see if I can put WhatsApp on his phone. He's not good with computers so I think we will stick to the phone for now.

WhatsApp, Zoom, Telegram are all options.
My preferred option is Telegram but then I have a strong paranoid streak in me 😊

When my son lived in Dubai we used to do Zoom calls I have an IPad and just had to download the APP…. I am definitely not technical minded and am 77…so if I did it I bet your Dad can… We used what’s app thingy to talk on the phone too……Us oldies just take a bit longer to pick things up lol.

I'll bet once your dad gets started using a tablet he'll love it. If you are so inclined, you can take him one and set it up with the Zoom app and email. Show him how to do the basics with email (how to open the email and delete the stuff/ads) and then send him an email message with a link to click on to talk to you. Once you go through it with him a couple of times, he'll see how easy it is to use. So much better to be able to look at the person so when he tells you he's fine, you can see for yourself. But, you know your dad best - if this really is too much for him.
