Poor Ron has departed to the fields of millet I'm not quite sure what to say about Ron, he was such a staple of the aviary. I always saw him as a father figure to the others. He was certainly my best eater, introducing newbie's to all sorts of different kinds of food. He came to me from the RSPCA on 6 August 2014 and paired up with Mabel for a few years until she went on to pair up with others and left him heartbroken. He never paired up with another although he was friendly with a lot of the boys and would often be sat chirping away with them. He replaced his love for Mabel with food, and would be happiest stood in a food bowl munching away - he was particularly fond of porridge oats!! Ron was never any trouble, never falling out with anyone, and never particularly ill. A few months ago I felt a lump on him quite low down and I knew he was getting on in years, he had been with me 8 years and I don't know how old he was before that, so I tried to keep him as happy as possible for as long as I could. He did so well - he only came inside last weekend when he got paralysis in one of his legs; I'm guessing the tumour was pressing on it. He spent a couple of days inside with Rupert and Ivy. They were in the big cage on wheels so ample room and I think he found it a comfort being with them. I'd made a little bed for him out of a tea towel although he wasn't impressed with that, he preferred to sit in the food bowls!! He ate and drank normally on Monday, then Tuesday he was just nibbling now and again....he had lost a lot of weight and I had known his breathing wasn't great. He passed Tuesday evening. I've buried him in the garden with the others, facing the aviary. It is quite surreal, to not be seeing him when I go in the aviary. I look for him then realise Ron - I hope you are up there flying about like you did in your youth and reunited with the others! We all love you and miss you!! Fly high my sweet xxxxx

I'm so sorry that you lost big and beautiful Ron. One of my favourites (along with Ida and Gene Hunt).
I hope he's up there with his twin, my dearly departed Hector stuffing his face and bashing beaks together.

Goodbye big, handsome Ron. Looking at you picture I can easily see you being a father figure. Fields of millet has many food bowls for you to sit in and munch away.

Fare well Big Ron. It seems you had a good life. Fly high and have your pick of full food bowls on the other side.

I am so sorry, clt80. Ron certainly was a handsome budgie and definitely worth of being considered a father figure. Rest In Peace Ron Burgandy. I hope there are plenty of porridge oats waiting for you in your next life. xx

Sad days. I know he had a good life and was old, and I want that for all of them. It's just sad Altogether there are 10 left. 2 inside - ivy and Rupert, although Rupert has the odd day outside when it's nice, and 8 in the aviary.
