Hello, Welcome to the forum.
None of my budgies have had an x-ray but the vet did suggest it a couple of times for one of my boys. I can't remember exactly how much they said but it was more than £100. I think it was around £150. Prices do vary quite a lot depending on where you live.
The vet could feel that my budgie had an enlarged liver, so he suggested we try antibiotics in case it was an infection, or we could x-ray to see if it was a tumour. We decided to try antiobiotics first and his liver returned to it's normal size. He did develop a lump in his abdomen a few years later, which was very large and at this point we decided not to x-ray as there wasn't going to be any treatment available, as it was very likely a tumour.

criswell 's experience mirrors my own conversations with the vet. I've had two budgies with mysterious ailments. In both cases, a 'least harm first' approach was used - antibiotics & anti-inflammatories were the first port of call. Blood tests, x-rays and the like are invasive and/or higher risk. In many cases, all that you learn is that there is a problem you cannot do anything about. In both my budgies' cases, I elected not to go beyond simple medicinal treatments, in order to spare my birds unnecessary stress. In the case of Mr Hibs, he recovered. For my poor Patch, he declined and eventually passed - the vet's opinion was that there was a congenital condition in play. I would think long and hard about treatments that place a budgie at risk. The potential reward has to be worth it. In my case, peace-of-mind from knowing what is wrong is not sufficient reason to possibly add to the bird's distress. This is simply my opinion and I welcome discussion on this topic, as I would like to hear other opinions & viewpoints.

Whereabouts on the planet are you? That might help determine what price you pay and who can give you some indication.
