I have no idea why she does this. Iris keeps bashing the seed troughs up and down by hanging on the back of the cage and biting at them.
It means that all of the seed ends up being tipped out.
I feel she does it for attention as she knows that I will have to come over and stop her.

She’s been doing this for ages hasn’t she? I can’t think of a way of securing them any better to the cage as I’ve got the same troughs. Could you add a peg to them possibly? Mine are in the Hamberley but your vision might be more accommodating to a peg. I know how much this annoys you. Iris needs a naughty perch in the corner.

I have put a couple of clips at the back but she's still tried today! The noise isn't as annoying and no seed has fallen out

I'm guessing Iris does it for same reason Chocobo empties her seed bowl(s) - she just likes to see what happens. And the fact that you "join in on the game" is a bonus.
Toys and shreddables are all very well but a food trough has lots of moving parts - there's the movement of the trough, the sound of it, the movement of the seeds and the sound of those, then mum gets up and resets the game to the start again - it's all the fun of the Fair!

It is the equivalent of budgies picking the bowl up in the ring holder and letting it slam back down or clearing the ring to let the bowl drop to the cage bottom. All in a day's entertainment!

Does she do it when you are not in the room?
She's a pest. Out and out pesty...

Finlay pushes one of the ceramic seed bowls off the platform onto the cage floor from time to time. I've never seen it happen. But I'm absolutely certain it's her!

Yes, she does it when I am not in the room, but moreso when I am. She likes to see the veins in my head throbbing. I feel the more angry I get, the more she does it.
Or maybe she's helping the other budgies in that cage as a lot of them like to go to the bottom and rifle through the seeds on the floor.

Gwen will do this with the little plates, lifting it by the edge and dropping the corner. Though there's never food left on them by this point. They have to be on a flat surface so that she doesn't drop them off of a platform, because I'm fairly certain that's what would happen.
I've also come home to find the grit bowl askew before, and she fully gets into that and digs sometimes.

Haha I recognise that behaviour also. Charlie loved to knock seeds down to the bottom of his cage and then he'd spend a couple of hours each day scavenging around down there.
What a cute bird family!

I'm reminded of that scene in a Batman movie:
"... some hens aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some hens just want to watch the world burn."
I ... I'll get me coat.

Yes, I think Iris is that kind of hen.
