I had to look some of these animals up Hezz, I'd never heard of them. Nope, sorry, I could not live in Australia 😁 Beautiful little bird though.

They are all very shy, nowhere near as trusting as those I had become used to. I’ll have to work on their trust. A little bribery may be in order.😉

So happy we're on page 3 so I don't have to scroll by Marianne Marlow's evil video any more to read the latest post! Sounds like a wonderful retreat that you have Hezz!

Marianne Marlow, are you trying to kill me?! I wasn’t expecting that when I scrolled down! My heart is still going ten to the dozen! You won’t be on Santa’s Good List this year!

Snakes 🐍 I have a very healthy respect for. Goannas have a reputation for climbing the tallest nearby thing if feeling threatened, and that could possibly be the human. Myth or truth? I don’t know of anyone to whom this has happened, but … The others are all shy little creatures who do no harm. My previous Mr Chook was so quiet that he would follow me around the garden waiting for anything tossed out, and did on separate occasions lightly peck me on the toe and back of my heel in the hope of better offering. Scared the life out of me the first few times but after that I was better prepared. Maybe he thought a big toe was a fat juicy grub?? 😆 Our veg scraps we tossed out towards our little creek and the scrub turkey family always cleaned things up. We also discovered that the little pademelons, a type of small wallaby, just loved banana skins. 😊

I've been bitten by a snake, when I was young. Fortunately, it was only a garter snake which I had captured. I have no fear of snakes which do *not* have a harmful venomous bite!

loz I too was bitten by a garden variety of garter snake. It was in a terrarium and I picked it up to show visiting school children. One of them reached out to grab it and it took a bite hold on my hand. To add insult to injury, it kept dragging its teeth on my hand to get a bigger bite. I was able to get it off my hand and put it back without the children being upset. Fortunately it didn't draw blood, just as series of pin prick teeth marks.

Oh the pair of you!! I can’t imagine not having my phobia. I’m surprised my eldest has never been bitten considering where he lives and how often he comes across adders. When he was a teenager he’d often take photos of himself holding grass snakes and they weren’t small. I banned him from picking up an adder but I don’t doubt he did. I probably made it even more enticing by telling him not to. The funny thing is I’m not scared of being bitten by one per se; it’s just having one near me or even within eyeshot and that includes the TV. I go completely panicky and shaky but I’m far worse with large ones. I remember a few years ago reading about a pet somehow escaping and falling through the ceiling of a neighbours home, where it killed two children having a sleepover. Also a little boy somewhere in Africa who climbed a tree to escape but witnessed his friend being killed and then eaten by a python. I’m surprised I even typed that as just the thought of it makes my heart start going and I'm jittery. Luckily, that’s my only phobia. I feel sorry for those who suffer with arachnophobia as the chance of coming into contact with a spider is always going to be high. So interesting to hear about your previous animal neighbours and their little treats Hezz. I think I’ll stick to my garden birds and resident hedgehog though.

All our vege scraps go out over the fence so the wildlife have that to look forward to. The little pademelons love banana skins, it seems. Watched mum and Joey having a good old munch on one. Very sweet.
